People do love to be offended.
The thing that really pisses me off with the PC Righteous is they're never actually offended themselves, they always seem to be offended on behalf of other people or groups.
How and when did the Mary Whitehouse brigade get in charge anyway?

It's a site called Simply Lovelah Brotherhood. People send in videos, often pornographic, and the site put all the videos together while a guy commentates over the top with a strong Yorkshire accent.

The sign Clucas made is similar to the logo of the site and they believe this is what he was referring to in his goal celebration.

Seems pretty standard for any company to not want their employees to publicly connect them to such a site and they have made a public statement saying it is unacceptable.

Swansea have not said anything bad about the site itself.

In true standard fashion this has led to a handful of people to see this as PC gone mad, pandering to the left or taking offence on others behalf. None of these claims are remotely relevant to what actually happened. Just the same tired lines thrown out in every situation.

As I've said before, it's not about offence.

I couldn't give a fuck what anyone wants to say on here, for example, because the chance of children being influenced by it is close to zero. But when we are happy to see pornography and the whole objectification of women's bodies become normal and commonplace in the world at large, I do start to think a bit about the effect it will have on children and adolescents, and particularly those who might think they need to measure up to unrealistic ideals. And I worry even more for the poor kids who have no hope of measuring up and who may make stupid decisions based on what they mistakenly see as their failures or inadequacies.

If we don't give a toss about that sort of thing, OK, let's talk about why we don't.

But please don't dismiss the whole debate by thinking it's just a load of Mary Whitehouses just waiting to be offended.

Looked into this a bit more. It seems Swansea's statement was in response to the FA looking into the issue.

A Premier League spokesman added: “We would not want offensive material referenced in our competition in any way.”

So all talk about this being about people taken offence are talking absolute horseshit, unsurprisingly.

I find the Ozil celebration where he sucks his thumb to be offensive. It clearly references an underground niche collective of perverted adult babies.

Anyone got the FA number?

And it's not totally because they wouldn't let me join...

Although I am still upset about it :cautious:

I'm sick of the fact that my kids are going to be growing up where every bit of free speech/opinion is taken away.
Everyone's being turned into a fucking robot - "YOU MUST THINK AND BEHAVE THIS WAY".

No wonder we have a generation of softies who can't hack it when something challenging comes along.

I'm sick of people using 'free speech' as an argument but not knowing what it means.

Free speech doesn't mean people can say whatever they like and then no one can reply negatively, that would be effecting the receivers free speech. It means the state can't imprison you for what you say (doesn't exist here anyway and never really has)

P.s the last bit is what every generation says about the one after them, "back in my day" etc. It's just old people being afraid of change, which is understandable but doesn't make it true

No, it's not about offending people. It's about consequences.

Think about the statistics for adolescent suicide. Think about the mental disorders that young people are increasingly suffering from, including self-harming, eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia; there's very little disagreement (is there?) that a lot of misery is caused to young girls in particular feeling that they have to live up to unrealistic standards of physical appearance.

Increasingly it's also about unrealistic sexual aspirations too, with girls (maybe some boys too, butI'd bet it's mainly girls) being made to believe that all sorts of things are expected of them that they may not actually want to do, or be ready to even think about doing. Obviously not all suicides and other awful problems are due to this sort of pressure , but some are, and that is bad, and it some of it could be prevented.

I'm not suggesting Clucas knew or thought about any of this but I'm glad that his club don't take the attitude that ignorance makes things OK. Ignorance may occasionally be an excuse, depending on circumstances, but it doesn't mean it should be treated as normal responsible behaviour, or that we should make excuses for it.

You clearly haven't seen the videos as no young impressionable girl is going to turn to bulimia and depression, based on the creatures I've seen from the videos sent around. Wouldn't ride half of em into battle...

Bet the site has gotten a mountain load more hits over the last few days though! Clucas has taken their popularity sky high probably. I'd never heard of them either before the statement was put out by Swansea.

True but Swansea didn't release their statement in response to the site.

They did it in response to the FA saying it was unacceptable. The club in response have to show they are acting.

Couldn’t really care less about the gesture. But what really annoys me is the bullshit insincere aplology where he claimed to not know that it was linked to porn. Pull the other one, mate. We all know it’s the kind crap that groups of lads WhatsApp’ each other.
