Benfica coach Fernando Santos will have the final say on whether Ricardo Rocha leaves the club.
The defender, who would cost at least €7million (£4.6million) has been linked with a January move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Martin Jol appears to be in the market for a new stopper after also being linked with bids for Manchester United duo Wes Brown and Gabriel Heinze.
Reports in Portugal claim Spurs are ready to test Benfica's resolve to keep Rocha by lodging a firm bid in the coming days.
Though Benfica refused to comment specifically on Rocha's future, the club outlined the current transfer situation.
A club spokesman said: "We have received several offers for some players, but the decision is down to the coach, and after that the club."
Santos is tipped to meet with Benfica directors on Thursday to discuss the interest in Rocha, who made five appearances in the UEFA Champions League group phase this season.
