Yet it's the biggest markets (Dallas, San Francisco, Boston) that often have the cash to hire the clever people and have a lot of championships between them compared to everyone else
And Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore? San Francisco had a huge run in the 80's when they had one of the greatest QB's & coaches of all time. Their franchise has not always but mostly been pretty poor both before and since. Boston is a bad example. The Patriots are basically the NFL version of Chelsea. The franchise was horrible and mostly irrelevant up until they hired the greatest coach of all time in 2000. Since then they've cheated their way to 5 titles in the past 17 years.
Don't the worst teams from the previous season get the best/first draft call to level the playing field?
Yes. And a salary cap too. It's always a level playing field. Los Angeles has mostly always been an NFL also ran despite multiple franchises playing in the second biggest market in the US.

Anyways, fuck Barca. I'm glad they got screwed over by PSG. I think it's hilarious that they are now preying on the biggest clubs in the world and all they can do is throw a tantrum and cry about it. I can only hope PSG starts using their oil money to start preying on the big Premier League clubs. Sanchez and Hazard would look fantastic in their colors.

I do wonder just how likely it will be now for the big clubs go include release clauses in the contracts of their star players.

I think you might be the only one. However good he is, he's not twice as good as everyone else, yet they have paid twice as much. Barca now have to spend big in order to appease their fans, and that means one of coutinho, M'bappe or Dele(although a different type and a year too early imo). Which ever one they go for though, it will be far in excess of 100 mil because of what Neymar just went for.
Griezman?

The top Spanish clubs always have them in as a sort of insurance policy, they are so high against the current transfer market that they will not be met, but on a few occasions they have been.

They'll probably just bump up the clauses on top players to £300m+ although struggling to see any players of that grade with enough years left in them to be worth it.

Immense pressure on him now, he's got to put in some incredibly consistent performances to justify that fee.

PSG President just said he expects Naymar to be worth £400M in 2 years. What ever way this is cut Ligue One is a massive step down from La Liga.

To who? I know prices at inflating fast but that is ridiculous, IMO he is just trying to justify paying double the previous world record fee.

Oh I agree, he came across as a right smug git.

It is absurd, but football jumped the shark a long time ago. The idea of paying a million pound for a guy to kick a football about is ridiculous, let alone paying him tens of thousands of pounds a week for the privelage of doing so.

After that it's just a matter of degrees. In a world where someone as mediocre as Jesse Lingard is getting paid millions of pounds a year to be mediocre, is it really so outlandish that a genuinely great footballer is commanding a fee close to £200mill?

Famously the first £1 player of course.
in old money.

fun fact, a British billion used to be 1 million x 1 million, but they decided it was too many numbers so changed it to the US version of 1000 million, coincidentally around the time of Trevor Francis (the late 17th century :cautious:)
