Tottenham Hotspur boss Cristian Stellini has heaped praise on wing back Emerson Royal after he excelled against Manchester City on Sunday.

One of the standout performances came from Tottenham wing back Emerson. Much has been said about Emerson’s displays since arriving from Barcelona for £26million in 2021.

“Yes Emerson was one of the most important. In the end of the game he had two or three situations and he showed his desire like all the team,” said Stellini. “It is important to have different players in the same position with different skills and you use the player when you need. Emerson showed today he is a good player.”

He had a really good game, for all the stick he gets I cant fault him for his determination to try and make himself better, he's a decent enough RB its just the end product that's required as a RWB that lets him down. With Cuti, himself (&Porro) and Deki we have a strong right side, Its the left side that we get out played mostly, the one player I thought would be much better than he has been is Perisic, Hopefully Udogie will make a big difference on that side and hopefully we will sign a class LCB in the summer.

Royal voted PO.T.M. on the official site.

He certainly deserved it for the stick he'd been getting. Totally unfair as he was signed as a conventional RB and asked to play a role not suited to his strengths. He get singled out by the boo-boys (who always have to have someone in their sights despite being there to 'support' the team) and its an uphill struggle after that. But did he shrink and wilt away? No. You have to hand it to him. It this kind of mental toughness that winners are made out of and we need it in the squad. I hope he stays and continues to do well. Has the making of a cult fan favorite now if he can keep this form up.
