Sorry - I agree with Mattspur on this insofar as that lineup isn't good enough. I wouldn't agree it's not good enough for EL qualifier but it's certainly not good enough for the Premier League - too many passengers.
Soldado, Capoue, Lamela, Townsend & Chiriches have all shown flashes but not done it consistently as yet, whilst Fryers is an unproven kid. You could accomodate one, perhaps two, of them in a stronger lineup, but not five. Someone like Verts will start losing interest again.

It'd be OK for the EL, but for the PL we should be looking at:

--------------Lloris------------
Walker---NewDF---Verts-Davies
--------Capoue--Dembele------
--Lennon---Holtby---Eriksen----
--------------Remy------------

I have assumed Sandro is off and Ade missinng start of season due to illness. I have also assumed we sign Davies (looking close), Loic Remy (if Arsenal sign Ballotelli in addition to Sanchez they won't want him and he'll join us) and a new centre half (would still like Lovren).

Had thought about Chadli in the middle and unconvinced by Lennon on RW in long-term but his rivals (Lamela, Townsend), whilst bright prospects, still haven't done enough to claim his place quite yet - he does link up well with Walker and his crossing is better these days. As this is a lineup for the start of the season I left him in.

In all fairness I had overlooked dembele so I can absolutely see your point in starting him.

Regarding the youngsters I do believe it's a case of unless they play we'll never know. Look at all the young players given a chance last year and seized it, shaw, prowse, stones, sterling, Barkley, flanagan, Bentelab, janazai (sp?), berahino, Wickham even Coutinho. If rather give our youngsters a chance rather than bringing others in and dropping them down the pecking order.

It's just my opinion and I could well be wrong but I've seen what some of thse lads are capable of.

Remy/Soldado, I'd pick bobby every day of the week

So what team would you play then?
Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Kabul, Rose
Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, lamela, Eriksen, Adebeyor.
433 formation, lamela off the left, Eriksen off the right but swapping around. Sandro stays deep, Paulinho stays slightly forward and Dembele does a bit of it all.

I'd ditch rose for a proven left back, ideally with a lot of premier league experience.

Neither Paulinho or Dembele impress me to be honest, the latter still supposedly has a hip injury for the 3rd season in the row. I'm only giving Paulinho a chance because he has had one season with us.

I'd certainly bring back BAE rather than pay 10 million plus for Ben Davis or playing Rose, Naughton or Fryers.

Can't disagree with any of that. The players I picked are on the basis they're ones we own and are better than the ones the other chap put in his relegation fodder 11.

Out of that team, for now, the only ones I'd give time of day to are Lloris, Eriksen and walker. Vertonghen needs to re prove himself. Lamela has a LOT to prove.
The rest are astonishingly "meh"
Capoue did nothing of note in understandably limited games.
I think Eriksen and Walker still have a lot to prove, especially Walker, who is prone to brain farts.

5 players who offer nothing defensively?
That team would get walloped by all the top 6.

PS Yes it is sad - we did not see the best of Sigurdsson.

Can't agree with the optimism about Soldado. His game is completely unsuited to the Prem. He doesn't have the strength or power (or appetite) to be a lone striker and we won't play two up top to accommodate him.
Obviously talented, probably a good bloke. But in the wrong league.
As a supporter, desperate to be proved wrong!

Yeah, have been happy with the effort to bring young players through that Redknapp, AVB and latterly Sherwood have made. Hope this continues under Poch. I'm also assuming his qualities at bringing the best out of existing players and young players at SFC was one of the reasons behind his employment, with our £73m investment in Soldado, Lamela & Paulinho looking questionable right now, so I'd expect the EL and League Cup will see these players and young players given game time to build their skills. But in the PL they will be used as subs or 1-2 of them as starters, with our stronger players making up the majority of the lineup.

Not a bad player at all but certainly expendable at the right price.

He needs to be an attacking midfielder/no 10, that's his best position as he proved at Swansea but, imo, he's not quite good enough to play that role for us.

I was underwhelmed when we signed him and I do think he'll find his level at Palace.

Shame to see Siggy go, scored some important goals for us, and a thoroughly all round good egg. Will do well at Palace I reckon, so good luck to him.

Which team?
klintheman's team

Lloris
Walker Verts Vlad Fryers
Capoue Holtby
Townsend Lamela Eriksen
Soldado

Holtby, Townsend, Lamela, Eriksen and Soldado cannot all play in the same team against half decent opponents.
Even replacing Holtby with Paulinho, it still looks a bit soft
