I'm thinking that keeping Danny Rose and promoting him into the Starting XI is the best move for us right now. He could waltz into the starting lineup when we begin next season. BAE and Naughton could be sold with Adam Smith coming in to provide a backup option to Walker. The money from BAE/Naughton can be used to fund a move for a striker and a cheaper LB option that would fit AVB's style.

Agree. We need to generate cash via squad player sales and then unload it on attackers before we think defenders though. Livermore, Gomes, Naughton could generate enough for Osvaldo? BAE and Huddlestone might create enough for Son. Rose, Townsend, Carroll and Smith to fill the gaps

The one certainty is we need to show some faith in youth and have a well thought out cull of our squad this off-season

Why sell Naughton? He is HG and covers both fullback positions. Not a starter bu a great option to have.

I'd say Rose, Walker, Smith, Naughton is fine. Kaboul and Vertonghen can both play fullback.

Even if Ekotto has had it (and I don't actually think he has judging by both his recent comments, and the fact that v City (and I bet tonight v Chelsea) Ekotto still starts, the notion that Rose will Waltz into the side ahead of a guy who has just had his first poor season (having missed half of it through injury) after several seasons ranging from good to superb is ludicrous. Rose has had a decent year, standing out among the shit at Sunderland, and may well develop further and become our first choice left back, but on current evidence Benoit is still clearly the superior option.

A few were saying he hasn't got much skill. This is my concern with him.

Well, When he played under Harry at left back, I really was not at all impressed. He just gave the ball away all the time. I imagine the number of games he;s played has aided his confidence, but I fear he just isn't the quality we need. time will tell, but I persoanlly have not watched him at Sunderland at all, so hard to comment on his ability right now.

Like I've said countless times previusly... When BAE was the same age as Rose, he couldn't get into a defence that was made up from the options of..... Chimbonda, Pyo, Stalteri, Ziegler, Davenport, Gardner, Rocha & a baby Dawson...

Just think if we'd have discarded 'Disco Benni' as easily as so many are happy for us to discard Rose.

going forward he is great, but his defense could use work. another loan next season to a mid table club would be best for all parties, but with benny seeming like hes on the way out, we might not have a choice but to play rose next season.

im worried the fans will have bought into the hype a little bit too much and give him the livermore treatment the first time he makes a defensive mistake....

Problem is so many fans seem oblivious to players developing, they think every player should be at their peak up until their last game, it doesn't work like that, a lot of short sighted people

Yeah I noticed that he was casual with his passing. He often tries ambitious attempts to get the ball upfield. He should be able to improve this side of his game with decent coaching.

What can let him down is his aggressiveness in the tackle. He enjoys diving in which is great from a competitive point of view, but also highly risky. If he learns to make the right decisions, then again he could be a top defender, but still a few ifs and buts for me.

Nice detective work.

Ship the insolent little mug out.

Unless he's been told by AVB he's going to be on the bench (which wouldn't happen) that's a terrible attitude to take when returning to a parent club.

There was none of that from Walker or Caulker.

I for one wouldn't welcome him back and I say cash in on him for 7-8 million from Sunderland.

there was nothing from those two when going out on loan saying they wanted first team football was there?

their loans were for their development. Rose wanted football so he went out
