I Agree. And the current 'going rate' for the current PL Golden Boot winner is 90k pw plus bonuses.
If in some insane scenario a team in the PL offered Defoe 500k per week, does that mean the going rate for an ageing above average striker is 500k? Of course not.
A player is only worth what someone is willing to spend on them. There are no benchmarks on the value of players, it has turned into an absolute Circus.
IF.... and that is a very big if, Harry was playing for City, or even United, he would undoubtedly be earning more money. But if he was earning more money at another club, does that mean that he would be a better player? No, he is exactly the same player wherever he plays.
