This is one of those players that when we were linked to him at Sheffield Utd fans were crying "lack of ambition".

Now someone took the chance on him and he's doing well, we were wrong for not signing him from Sheffield Utd.

:banghead:
Like Aarons/Bowen "the club lacks ambition if the championship is our market". We will probably be having this conversation again next season about these players or similar

Completely agree. Maddison would have also improved us. We seem to have attracted an air of arogance about who will improve us and who is better for the club. We've a history of improving more by gambling on the Huddlestones and Walkers than we have with the Soldado's and Janssens.

Yep. People also tend to forget that English players are actually much better currently than they have been over the last 5-15 years, so they are a good investment to make at the moment.

I mentioned Brooks in the Eriksen thread a little while back. Live in Bournemouth, family has season tickets so have seen him quite a bit.
I could seen him been a capable under study and eventual replacement for our key man. He has fantastic ability on the ball, forward looking, could be a real talent.
Of course Eriksen is a world class player and Brooks would have a long way to go get to that level but as the community has said, looking at the top Championship players and Poching them up could be very fruitful.
Not sure Afcb would let him go, now or in the summer though!

I'v said many a time, but if/when we lose him we should be all over Aouar like a rash. I would put in a deal now for the summer as even if Eriksen stays he would be a huge asset for the future.

Nah, I think we should wait until he makes a massive splash in the CL and when man city, Barca and Bayern are after him. Only then should we make an offer

Impressed me a lot. Get’s a lot of playtime at Bornemouth so that could be a good reason to stick around at least until the summer. Not sure he’s what we need right now that we have Alli and Eriksen

Yeah probably because we put in piss poor offers for them and didn't get them.

Is there any truth to us bidding for him last summer but him deciding to go to Bournemouth to get game time ? I don't remember hearing anything about him in the summer but have heard this narrative now.

I remember reading we had some interest but nothing further than that.

Really we need to look at the next young talent from lower leagues, something we appear to have stopped doing since Dele. I’d love us to go for Jack Clarke. I’ve only seen him once, v Derby last Friday, but he reminded me of Bale at the same age.

Wasn’t it Brooke’s who didn’t want to come to us? Fearing he wouldn’t get much game time.

Tbf to the club, and to a sense of reason, we have to consider how much playing time this kid would have legitimately gotten had he been brought in in the summer. Lamela, once a record signing for us, can hardly get playing time for us. Lucas, who was on fire for us early in the season, rarely starts for us with a healthy Kane and Son. As good as the kid looks, we have to be realistic about how much time he would have actually gotten in his positions to flourish. At Bournemouth, he was given trust and responsibility, with us we just can’t know that he would had received that same level of appreciation - and based on some of the players already at the club who have already proven themselves Prem capable as mentioned above, my guess is that he would have been getting occasional games and thus might not have prospered. Furthermore, when you consider the cases of GKN and N’Jie, it’s even more evidence that we can’t be certain this guy would have immediately taken off.

All that having been said,

Completely agree. Maddison would have also improved us. We seem to have attracted an air of arogance about who will improve us and who is better for the club. We've a history of improving more by gambling on the Huddlestones and Walkers than we have with the Soldado's and Janssens.

I completely agree with this. The evidence does certainly suggest that we’ve had more luck even in the midst of the league-wife influx of foreign players with homegrowns, from our own academy and other clubs. So while I would like to see the club revert to more homegrown recruiting, I want to tie in my point above and reinforce the notion that we have to be realistic about playtime and our capability to provide an incoming player with trust and confidence which allows them to prosper. In the case of Maddison from above, not only did he look a quality player, but he’s quite versatile. He’s capable of playing across our attacking mid positions, but also in central midfield if need be. As such, I was really hoping we’d bring him in. I think he very well might have thrived with us given our midfield dearth this and last season.

As for Brooks, I’d like to see us bring him in, but at the same time I don’t think we can chastise the club given that it’s quite unlikely that the player would have been given the trust at the time that he’s been given at Bournemouth, and consequently been allowed to thrive off of.

We went for Grealish imo a better player and that failed

Yep, And fair enough.
He knows he needs to be playing every minute possible to fulfil his potential.
IF Eriksen is sold then, there may be a reason to move to Spurs as his route to the starting XI is clearer.
It wouldn't make sense for him to move right now, and spend more time on the bench than the pitch.

Challenge for Spurs, like with Dele, is to get them signed and bring these talented youngsters through.

How many wanted to throw multiple tens of millions at Fulham for Sessegnon?

There's not a youngster around that we could afford that I'd be overly confident of walking into the side.
