Tottenham are interested in signing goalkeeper David Raya and are expected to approach Brentford to discuss a fee.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has previously said Raya is worth £40m, although both Spurs and Man Utd are reluctant to pay that amount.

Raya has a year left on his contract and is unlikely to sign a new deal.

You can't blame Brentford and say £40m is too much for a player with only one year on his contract, then say Kane is worth north of £100m? We don't have to accept any offer, and can keep Kane for his final year, so can Brentford with Raya.
I hope we sign him, but I can see Levy declining to pay their price.

I do love the language of the transfer window.

I imagine us “approaching” Brentford furtively and asking “excuse me, but don’t suppose you’d tell us how much you’d likely sell Raya for?”

Brentford say “Christ, you scared the shit out of me….. anyway, can’t you see I’m busy? Bugger off”

“ok, I’m sorry to have bothered you”.

40 million seems a massive amount for a keeper, I think that would make him the 5th most expensive keeper ever and he’d only got a year left.

Especially when you compare it to one of the last goalkeeper transfers between PL clubs , Martinez to Villa for £17 million, Raya is now effectively no 2 at Brentford so why £40 mil ?

Because that's what they want.

Raya is a proven PL keeper and Martinez wasn’t. He isn’t ‘effectively no 2’. They bought Flekken because they knew they needed to sell Raya.. I understand why after watching Levy for years you’re confused by a club identifying a replacement and bringing them in at the beginning of a window but it isn’t against the rules.
