So i've been through the thread and with no intent, merely presented as found, here is the inside track on the non-signing of David Villa 2013:

A tale of Journalists, SC members,Twitter and ITK

12th May:
Beats1:
Newspapers have Villa interesting Tottenham and Atletico Madrid
15th May:
Graham Hunter:
Tottenham are interested.
17th May:
AVB on David Villa:
'Hes one of the world’s best strikers. What comes out of speculation at this time at Tottenham is very surreal..'
Valenciayid:
'The real question is, has David Villa finally decided that he is prepared to play outside his beloved Spain?? ' and 'i am just stating what he has decided to do ever since he was at Valencia, despite lots of rumors about him leaving to play outside Spain before, those close to him always knew he never wanted to leave Spain...have things changed? his final big pay day?
20th May:
Archibald:
Villa is a strong possibility but lets be honest if Arsenal come in we know where he will go
Second hand report of Graham Roberts:
told us that a deal had been agreed with Barcelona to bring David Villa here. Of course, a deal being agreed with the club doesn't mean the player agrees to come if he doesn't fancy it
backed up by Tom Collomosse article in Standard
24th May:
Beats1:
David Villa is not keen on Atletico Madrid and apparently CL isnt a factor in his decision. He would rather stay on the bench than go to Atletico apparently
27th May:
Daily Mail and Daily Mirror are saying we have opened talks with Barcelona for Villa
28th May:
Ryantegan:
we are very serious about Villa
29th May:
POTL:
Just an FYI on this as I keep getting asked about it.
This has been ongoing for nearly 3 months... this deal has been being negotiated for a while... we are not his only option... player is available.
If this can be concluded- Daniel will deserve a lot of personal credit.
Adam Suter:
Villa financials half way there player happy just down to the clubs now with a fee #Positive
JJetset:
Remember what I said yesterday on the Villa deal? Well DL isn't trying to buy him so I was right, well kind of as he wants to loan him
30th May:
Gards:
We want him We are in for him but so are others! DL bargain hunting but would be surprised on a player like DV for Cheap! isn’t DV only a loan offer?
Kind of! Or an 8m euro offer! Both laughed off!
Tancredi Palmieri:
David Villa is very close to decide to move from Barcelona. Some few options on the table, still unknown if he has preference
1st June:
Graham Hunter:
Spurs and Arsenal have both made enquiries with us offering better terms at the moment. He also said that his agents had spoken to AVB and had been impressed with what he had to say.
Jason Burt:
says that Andre is planning to sign Villa for £10m this summer
2nd June:
Toela65:
FWIW my Journo friend says Arsenal have had a 'Gentleman's Agreement' with Villa since January. He said its well known in their circles and they'd be shocked if a move to Arse didn't come to fruition.
4th June:
WPD659:
Hearing it is 2 years plus a option to extend of 1 year. He is waiting till after cup as a gd performance could get him a better deal. But IMO i think he is waiting for a better deal from any club interested. Arsenal are offering less than us and i cant see us offering more than 90k? I think he is hoping for a german club or a club willing to offer him more like 120k and CL. I think this ship my of already sailed if im honest
19th June:
The Goat: has a source who says that he's hearing David Villa could be the main attacking target and there is a very good chance we'll get him
20th June:
Beats1: There wasn't a wink of villa to le Arse in the Spanish press they all mentioned the English press say they are still for him and they were close in January, same goes for Higuain not a wink in the Spanish press either. I think either player is still weeks away from deciding their future.
21st June
Tancredi Palmieri:
Tottenham is significantly intensifying the contacts to sign David Villa
22nd June:
Greg Stobart:
Villa is first choice for striker (with Soldado as a possible alternative) and that it's looking promising but won't happen til July
23rd June:
Suter/Gards:
[Villa to come after Confed Cup]that is true 100% / Not sure if that is true but his advisors have been 2 our training ground & loved it as well as massively impressed by AVB!
24th June:
Spurvert:
Been told AVB has been all but promised that David Villa will become a Spurs player next month. We're not looking to delay on this one #THFC
26th June:
POTL:
More good work from Franco whilst in Brazil on the Villa deal. Tevez going to Juve has strengthened our chances as this means the Higuain deal to Arsenal looks likely which effectively rules them out of DV. As mentioned much work has gone into this deal over the past few months, up to the player to decide.
WPD659:
Franco has come good... I think Villa will be an amazing bit of business, and will only help promote our club and business. And also will help us bring more top quality players in.
28th June:
Greg Stobart:
David Villa says 'yes' to Tottenham ahead of summer move [no actual quotes]
1st July:
Ryantegan:
Villa is done apparently. So Harry's friends tell him
Hertyid:
Hearing this is moving fast now, expect something by end of the week.
Neil Eatson:
Now I know this can't bite me. David Villa. Goodnight.
2nd July:
WPD659:
We think dave [Villa] is ours.
3rd July:
POTL:
There will be news on the house [Villa] by the weekend hopefully though
5th July:
Rebrab:
Villa looks like its happening.
6th July:
Wishkah:
Spurs have the finance in place for a Spanish signing should they wish to use them and the amount suggests Villa.
7th July:
@barcastuff: Atletico representatives have met with Villa in Gijon on Thursday. Atletico and Barcelona will meet in coming days to discuss transfer
8th July:
Ian Abrahams ‏@BroadcastMoose

he just did

without knowing the ins and outs of his new contract and all the negotiations/agreements between Barca and Atletico all we can do is speculate aka talk shite but I think it's highly unlikely a player at his age would simply walk away from a massive payday like that without so much as a whisper

my bet would be Atletico and Barca split the massive wage for this season and not necessarily down the middle and then there's the weird sell on clause for a player of his age

I'm usually Levy's biggest critic but in this case I think Villa just chose someone else over us.
I can't believe even Levy with his fear of strikers wouldn't slap that shit on the table in used fifties.

Yeah, I said earlier today that we are not quite the draw that some think we are. We just have to accept that no CL holds us back and makes it all the more frustrating that we didn't build on our good position 18months ago.

Hopefully Athletico didnt come in at the last minute while we dragged our heels. That would be a pisser.

Fuck him, he's loss.

If I was a pro, I would want to experience s few different leagues and cultures.

He is basically in the same shit tip of a country, same ol same ol with much less chance of winning anything.

Close thread IMO

Athletico are the 3rd biggest club in Spain and did the double in 1996. They have a bigger stadium, have won their league 9 times with 8 runners up, theyve won their fa cup 10 times with 9 runners up.

They'll be moving into a 73k stadium in 2015.

In what way are we bigger or better? Is it because we are higher than them in the turnover money table due to getting a better tv deal than them?

hold up there guvnor were fackn English we must be bigger than dem

Maybe the fact it is world cup year worked against us. Coming to the PL may have been too big a gamble for him. Considering the Spanish have Torres, negredo and saldado to play through the middle and countless wide options, moving country was too big a gamble for him. The world cup is probably going to be his last major tournament for his country.

It makes me wonder how a club in serious debt (who have trouble paying off previous transfers) in one of Europe's worst economies right now can afford wages for a player like Villa, when a well run club like Spurs would have to break there wage barrier as a once off to get him.

I have a feeling that FFP rules wont effect the clubs it needs to (clubs in Spain, Oil rich clubs etc) but more the well run clubs like ours.

People here saying he's signed. As far as sky sports are reporting is just an agreement between the clubs.
It's my birthday tomorrow and I'm still crossing my fingers.

Oh and regarding Villa signing for AM -> CL, staying local = fair enough. I'm disappointed, but totally understand his decision to stay in Spain.

I haven't read the Spanish papers lately as I am away but it seems city going for negredo has screwed us over as it looked like atletico had him as no.1 target

Also, it's nice to see I made the list but I just posted what was in mundo deportivo just in case anyone thinks I'm itk lol

They were initially, MD and Graham Hunter mentioned how he wanted to come to the PL over staying in Spain and CL wasn't a factor also negredo looked certain to join atletico but I think city coming meant they couldn't find a third party to finish it before city were involved
