I haven't read the Spanish papers lately as I am away but it seems city going for negredo has screwed us over as it looked like atletico had him as no.1 target

Also, it's nice to see I made the list but I just posted what was in mundo deportivo just in case anyone thinks I'm itk lol

Ha. You got in for two reasons, firstly you were the first to mention A. Madrid and you also posted quite factually!
Explanation noted! And good work bringing stuff in

Fuck him, he's loss.

If I was a pro, I would want to experience s few different leagues and cultures.

He is basically in the same shit tip of a country, same ol same ol with much less chance of winning anything.

Close thread IMO

You just described every single English player.

Villa He has won everything. And just signed for a club who have won two of the last four Europa cups.

According to Graham Hunter, Villa chose Athletico over us purely because of the Champions League.

It's a shame that players like that pick a team based on 6-8 games a season.

To be fair it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of personal sponsorship deals carried extra cash incentives for being in the champions league.

True, but surely playing in the most watched league in the world would also give him extra cash benefits from his sponsors? Especially playing in a team with the 3rd best player in the world?

Yep I would have thought we had a lot going for us even without champions league.

Just makes missing out in the last two seasons even more difficult to take. If we had CL going for us too I could see us taking off.

I think you could go back as far as the season we were in the champions league. Once we had beaten Young Boys, we knew that we needed a striker then and we had the Champions league money. If we had invested that then, not only could we have qualified for a second time, but maybe pushed Real more in that 1/4 final.

Anyone saying this is a blessing in disguise is talking out of his arse.
You seem to have missed out on the word PROBABLY that was quoted. I never said he would be flop no more than you can prove that he would have been a success. Read and comprehend before you respond. Wonder who seems to be talking out their arse now.

1. Exactly what Defoe has done.
2. Exactly what Defoe is.

Problem is we need an upgrade from Defoe and Adebayor, and we need a player nearer the quality of Drogba. For a £20m outlay, we can't really afford to get this wrong.
Not sure of your point kitchen but a 22 year old Defoe would go for £20m + in this day and age, Dogba in his prime would be double that and more.

look its happened......

levy did what he could but even he cant persuade a man and his family to move and leave their own country to play for a team when in their own country they can get paid just as much if not more and also play champion league!!

some of you should stop looking for someone to blame. we made our bid tried but we couldnt finish it.......it happens

The villa thing is nothing to do with levy.

all was agreed villa had the choice of us,arsenal (misreported as fiorentina) and athletico.

he chose athletico as expected. ..there is no drama with that.

Yep, kinda makes it easier to accept. Absolutely nothing we could do here, and I can see Villas reason for staying in Spain. Its a bummer but onwards and upwards, hopefully we get a new striker wrapped up before we go on our pre season tour.

It makes me wonder how a club in serious debt (who have trouble paying off previously transfers) in one of Europe's worst economies right now can afford wages for a player like Villa, when a well run club like Spurs would have to break there wage barrier as a once off to get him.

I have a feeling that FFP rules wont effect the clubs it needs to (clubs in Spain, Oil rich clubs etc) but more the well run clubs like ours.

This is so true

LLM also mention Villa has relatives working in AM that sway his decision.... so I am fine with that bec Levy tried his best.

It all depends on the wage structure of the club, they've consistently had top quality forwards in recent years.

The star striker/s is paid the most and the rest are nowhere close. Something like that.

This is what an "apparent" ITK had to say on the matter (sorry if already posted):

looklikemodric
Well We did make an offer to loan villa in January. That very nearly happened then Barca decided they wanted to keep him but would let him go at the end of the season...

Us, Arsenal and Athletico all had bids accepted and Villa had the choice of all three clubs. In fairness to Villa he has a family member at Athletico and made it clear he wished to join them. It was the English media and Villas advisors (who wanted to drum up more interest) who dragged it out till 5 weeks later.

If anyone is interested our bid was 5 million pounds rising to 7 million dependent on various factors.

All in all I am not bothered......plenty more fish in the sea. Wipe our mouths and move on.

We need to get real here. Athletico madrid are a big club and currently probably bigger then us especially to a spanish player. I love reading all the ITK on here but this villa saga proves no one really truly knows or if they do, its info that is outdated
