Next season football manager would have been very boring if villa joined though, as a striker is pmuch the only spot to improve on during the first window;)

Can't our scouts do better than a WC finisher, who has won everything in Spanish and International football, who is available cheaply and would improve our starting XI? Sometimes the idiocy on this forum makes my head hurt.

Also this thread does need to be moved to general football now.

Don't get me wrong, if he had signed i like most of our fans would have put a positive spin on what a great signing he would be for us, but honestly, really, i wasn't really keen on him, i can't put my finger on why, his age?injury?did i question his desire? his motives?what ever it was i wasn't keen on him, and this isn't sour grapes....Benteke feels right..if the price isn't mental ofc.

yes can't our scouts discover someone younger who have a good chance of signing with good resale value, there isn't much to scouting a well known older player like villa. seems fairly logical to me rather than idiotic

What a shock. Another big name player we went all out to get but never happens. I get that it is not supposed to be Levy's fault but this seems to happen every time. Paulinho may play for Brazil but nobody knows who he is. We will instead end up with Defoe and Ade up front again unless we sign a bargain player from a mid table club. Got all exited yet again only to face disappointment. I am starting to see us barely finishing 5th and losing Bale next season taking us back to mid table.

tbh I would prefer to concentrate on younger players- 5-6m transfer plus 80k on wages doesn't really make sense. We can get two potentially world class strikers for 40k a week each. Hijack the bony (top player in holland last year) deal and a young player like neal maupay from nice

i had added him to my team to see if he worked- he didn't lost his place to Jovetic. Plus he was on high wages and couldn't sell him. A lesson for real life. :smug:

Firstly, we've got to aim high otherwise wher would our ambitions lie? By the sounds of it this one was pretty close, as with others, but if players don't want to come to us that's hardly our fault is it? If we'd have finished 4th this year or 3rd last year things would've been very different but unfortunately that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Secondly, Paulinho may not be a household name but he is heard of. As a club of our stature and financial limitations we simply cannot afford to go for household names, just isn't possible. Our best bet is signing players who either fall into the category of young promising talent and hope that they fulfill their potential, or overseas talent and hope that they can replicate their form on our shores - or even a combination of both.

We'll obviouslty have backup plans but it's not a dead cert that any of them will pay off. If we end up at Plan E and have to settle for our 5th choice then so be it. If that 5th choice doesn't really do much to improve on what we've got then why bother spending the money on him?

We are not made of money like some of our direct competitors- the fact no one knows who paulinho is is an encouraging sign that we are actually scouting for players. our success depends on it. we can't compete on financial terms- not until the stadium is built and paid off.
