“It is true the idea was for me to go to the English Premier League because the biggest offers came from there, but then Atletico de Madrid showed up and they did more in three days than others did in months, which in this case was something more personal."

"We had a move to the Premier [League] in mind but then Atleti appeared and within three days all my personal terms had been agreed," Villa said.

Can't help thinking that we didn't do enough or move quickly enough with quotes like these to be honest.

Sounds like he was ready to go and make more money but in the end chose an easier option for his family and decided to stay in Spain. If it was all settled upon, what more was there to do? No wonder the club felt it was done, the price and package for Villa was already higher and he chose a less lucrative offer for other reasons.

Or he felt that Atletico made more of an effort to wrap things up quickly rather than waiting for us to get our act together?

Who can tell, the quotes about months in comparison to weeks smells an awful lot like us and it don't smell all that good.

It appealed to what he really wanted, to stay in Spain, rather than what was on the table beforehand. Easy to change your mind when what you really want suddenly becomes an option.

If you look for something negative about the club then you'll find it. Better to just accept that circumstances changed and move on. I'm sure the club did all they could in this instance, if Villas says it was all agreed then it was all agreed and a last second change of heart resulted in him going there for less than half the transfer fee. Barcelona helped him to move there, after all. Before it was just another business deal.
