Hello guys,

Hope you're all well.

Today we've done a piece on Davinson Sanchez and how he's already looking like a superb buy.

"With the manner in which Sánchez has acquitted himself in the Premier League, it would be easy to conclude that he has been a defender his whole life.

In fact, when he signed for Colombian side Nacional in 2012, he was an aggressive midfielder but, thanks to the excellent man-management skills of his coach, Felipe Merino, he learned to develop both the mental and physical side of his game as a central defender."

Davinson Sanchez - A potential bargain

Cheers,

Sam

But when you read some people's view points in the rating threads continually questioning the price tag and/or Sanchez's over aggressiveness you'll be left thinking that he was a waste of money and a liability waiting to happen.

I really like this signing money well spent.

Having watched our televised games I haven't noticed much talk about him by the pundits strangely.

It's all about Harry Kane. Yes he deserves a hell of a lot of praise but others in our team ie like Dier are playing very well too.

Actually, all the hype about Harry (well deserved so) may have helped other players to ease in as Harry has soaked up a lot of the pressure as well as attention from the press.
I am pretty sure clubs like ManU, ManC, Chelski, Arsenal and Liverpool - all clubs in (dire) need for a quality CB and with the capacity to outbid Spurs - are kicking themselves for not outbidding Spurs for Sanchez.
It is ironic though that despite of Pochettino being known for his attacking style, his biggest successes in the transfer market has been in regards to defensive players (Trippier, Aurier, Davies, Toby, Jan, Sanchez, Dier, Wanyama)

I think he's done brilliantly especially considering he's gone straight into the team at 21 years old. I do think having arguably the best 2 CB's in the league alongside him helps though. I think if he'd instead been put into a back 4 alongside another not so competent CB he might have found it tougher. Definitely going to be an absolute beast in a few years though.

Excuse the accidental dislike I have fat fingers, changed my rating and just to add I feel like he will be a monster come 23/24 years of age.

He can only improve under Poch, I can just imagine our back line when Sanchez and Aurier have a season or two under Poch behind them. Our defense will be almost unbreakable.

The best defenders are almost always in their late 20's, it's the experience and maturity they need, so if Sanchez is this good now, he's going to be amazing when he peaks.

He's been solid. Having Toby and Jan either side has obviously helped but his integration has been fairly seamless.

But if you watch him closely he still looks quite raw. A couple of times he's been lucky not to give away silly penalties (shoving Carroll in the air, v Huddersfield at the weekend). Hes not done a whole lot wrong but he clearly has quite a bit to learn but he's been solid so far. Poch will sort that out.

What I do think though is that having him there in the middle has allowed Toby and Jan to move the ball forward more seamlessly to the middle and final third of the pitch, they can step out with the ball and we all know how good Toby's range of passing is and how good Jan's bursts forward with the ball are.

Hopefully Sanchez and Poch can cut the rashness out of his game soon as I fear it's only a matter of time before he hangs a leg in on someone in the box or gets caught with a little push similar to the one v West Ham.

In Sanchez defense, if he hadn't taken the risk of a penalty when shoving Carroll he would almost certainly have scored. Agree with your other points though.

He's raw because he shoved Carroll? wow!!!.. So is he suppose to let Carroll have a free run and jump at goal...fair enough he was out of position possibly but Andy Carroll in the air is a beast.

People are just n picking.

No, he's raw because he is raw. I was just using that as one of the moments he was lucky his rashness wasn't punished. The lad is what, 21? I'm pleased at how he has done but I don't believe there is any need to go overboard about his performances. They haven't been THAT good. That's all.

And you dont have to be so nit picking about his (perceived) negative points. For all their experiences both Verts and Toby are still guilty at times about the same things you are accursing him of.

I'm calling it as I see it. Just because you don't like me saying he's not been as good as everyone thinks he's been doesn't make it nit picking.

I agree he's been good but nothing more than that, while also making some, like every young player will do, mistakes that could but haven't cost us.

He's slotted in well but if our already stable defence wasn't so stable he wouldn't have slotted in so seamlessly. I think he's got a big future with us but he's got many aspects of his game to work on.

This is a point that the excellent article [thanks Football Whispers] does not make. It has been noticeable that Vertonghen has made more forward runs this season. The system, with the defensive midfielder covering, has always allowed him to do that but he seems to be more comfortable doing it now Sanchez is there. So not only has Sanchez given us greater solidity at the back, he has also given us greater tactical flexibility and another attacking option.

Just watched him play with a bunch of Colombians here at a pub in Melbourne against Peru, looked very tidy and solid.

Ledleyesque effortless athleticism

Why was the game being played at an Australian pub? Has there been some crowd trouble in Colombia recently?
