Jan's been doing this again since we moved to the three at the back. The back three allows the two wide CBs to push forward on the ball and overload. Jan is the best we have at doing this, though Dier last season and Toby this, are both good at moving forward on the ball like this. This is a point that the excellent article [thanks Football Whispers] does not make. It has been noticeable that Vertonghen has made more forward runs this season. The system, with the defensive midfielder covering, has always allowed him to do that but he seems to be more comfortable doing it now Sanchez is there. So not only has Sanchez given us greater solidity at the back, he has also given us greater tactical flexibility and another attacking option.
Davinson offers better cover for them to do this than maybe we had last season, but I'm not sure it's happening with greater frequency than it did last year.
