I'm not sure if this has made the newspapers, apologies if it has. Morris Keston says on his Twitter page that Terry Venables believes Michael Dawson could make it into Capello's World Cup squad.

I spoke to Morris this morning and he elaborated saying that he spoke to Venables this morning and that El Tel's been mightily impressed with Dawson in the last few games. Venables also said if he was the England coach, he'd keep a close eye on him over the second half of the season as on current form he deserves to be in the 23 going to South Africa.

It's not impossible that Dawson (or Woodgate) could go to the World Cup but it probably depends on one or two injuries. Ferdinand, Lescott and Upson have all missed a lot of games through injury. If one or more of them doesn't make the trip, it will open up the selection.

If England wanted a like for like replacement should Terry get injured or suspended (neither is out of the ordinary lets face it), even if not as good a defender, Dawson provides the same qualities. Committed in everything, powerful and brave, crunching tackler (look at his perfect tackle on Ireland the other day, took the ball but the man definitely knew what had hit him) and inspirational in the example he sets. Dawson on current form is worthy of his place in our team at least, and if he continues to play like this then why should Upson or Lescott, neither of whom has pulled up any trees this season, be ahead of him?

Well Capello did consider seriously a one foot King, so why not a two footed Dawson?.

The thing Dawson has over many of the other centre backs hoping to go to the World Cup is that he's a right sided centre back. I think it was last week in the Sun, they were again looking through players who would go, Dawson and Huddlestone were tipped as the outsiders to make the squad. By outsiders I mean, not regulars in the squad.

I was thinking about just this whilst watching the piece with Ferdinand on Focus today.

I hope Capello's watching him.

Dawson has been run ragged first half today. But he does tend to rise to the big games when we are all worried about him

Capello should take Dawson, King & Woodgate! Plus Lennon, Defoe, Jenas, Crouch and Huddlestone.

Dawson>Upson

I'd like us to sign upson. Not sure if dawson is better but he has been in good form. When i say sign upson, i dont mean as a replacement, just another CB because unfortunately, king cant be relied on anymore. We need a settled back four.

If Lescott,Upson and Cahill are being considered then Dawson should be considered ahead of any of them.

All well and good, but the crucial thing is that I'd have Dawson over for dinner whereas I'd give Terry a fake phone number. It's these little details that some people miss. The difference between winning and losing.

Everytime, i see Dawson,he always happy and smiling,he must wake up every morning and think he won the lottery,he a premiership footballer on 40k a week and now he captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Everytime i see him ,i think about the J Smith advert with P kay, as the no nonsense footballer a the park " ave it"
But i wish more of our players had his spirit

The thang going against him is he isn't as good:grin: And he is overly fond of flapping his arms (allegdly).

El Tel - has that old sod not taken a fairy ship to Avalon (or the Gray Havens - whichever is geographically closer) yetEek Probalby establishing an invitations only, subscription (and boy, do I mean subscritpion) alternative in the basement at Scribes (and Pharisees) West:wink:
