How's what I said ludicrous?

You are asking us to adopt USA's second best right back as our second choice right midfielder?

How can that not be interpreted as ludicrous.

Out of interest, who would our first choice RM be?

I would have (in no order) Lamela, Chadli, Townsend, Lennon, Eriksen all ahead of him just for starters.

Lamela first choice, I'd sell Lennon and make Yedlin second choice.

I can only assume you haven't seen Yedlin play other than in the World Cup in which he apparently starred? If you had, there is no way you would suggest such a ludicrous idea.

He only actually played 112 minutes in that tournament btw.

So are you saying Yedlin is bad or what?

He played for the US as a RM a couple of months ago and was MOTM.

I don't really have time to watch every Seattle Sounders report but there are plenty of other people who write up about his performance after every game, so I read that instead.

How many times have you watched him?

i wouldn't see him being very effective in the premier league if played further forward, similar to rose.

I watched him in his most recent match. He didn't stand out at all.

I follow the MLS, and the Union in particular quite closely so I have seen a lot of him. He played against us in the Cup Final in which he was really, really poor.

He was poor in the cup final, but that has no bearing on the rest of the season! He has been very good for Seattle and the last match, from what I heard was actually pretty good and he kept the MLS' golden boy at bay all game.

Look, he has a ways to go and alot to learn. There is no denying that. But that should not detract us here. Yedlin has a ton of potential. Every player has their growing pains. But what is clear as day to everyone is that Yedlin keeps improving. He dramatically improved from last season to this season and he has also gotten alot better since the world cup, as signaled by the increase in interceptions per 90 and the increase in successful forward passes in attack per 90 following his return from the WC.

Yedlin is not coming here to start every game right away. He is coming here to play in the cups, be an impactful sub with his pace and make the occasional spot start in the league. Plus, the play of the team wont suffer going from walker to yedlin as it does from walker to naughton/dier/vlad as walker and yedlin are very similar players.

Will you give him time to develop? Or does he have to be insane as soon as he gets here?

He is 21, and should have done a lot of his developing already having a lot of game time so far in his relatively short professional career so far.

If I look back to Walker and Naughton at that age, this kid is nowhere near their level. Nowhere near.

Let's put it into perspective; Walker was Premier League Young Player of the Year at 21, whilst Kyle Naughton was selected in the Championship Team of the Year at the same age.

Dier, although not at right back, has a greater potential than this lad.

I think the same with Veljkovic too, and I liked the look of Oglivie too when I saw him play.

It actually irks me somewhat that we just go for the new shiny thing, when we have youngsters just as good.

Is he even any better than Ryan Fredericks, or even Adam Smith do you remember him?

Why are we signing a third choice right back - what is the point?

Impact Sub? What is he going to bring to a game that Walker wont already be doing so?

The play of the team suffers because we aren't very good. Beyond plan A we are useless, and that has been the case for many, many years - even under Harry.

You obviously don't rate Naughton which is your prerogative, but I think people need to stop holding the fact that he isn't super fast and attacking against him. Defensively, and I admit this is worrying, he is one of our best defenders at the club.

You're asking me the question?

I thought you had watched him play loads :ROFLMAO:

You clearly never learn- no one gets any time in your world.

No offense but for someone whose said he's a Philly Union fan and has watch Yedlin loads, you show a lack of understanding of football in America and a lack of knowledge about Yedlin. Guy started playing football in high school if I remember correctly. He's been playing professionally for 2 years. He got a college education. He's been a part time footballer since he started playing until about 2 years ago. He's gotten immensely better since starting to play professionally and has liads of potential. He just had a world class footballer in his pocket in the world cup. Were you expecting Yedlin to be like Philip Lahm or something?

Oh for fucks sake! He is not going to be 3rd string. 2nd string, like Naughton. And I do rate Naughton as a right back. I like him there more than most people on here actually. He is good enough to be starting for a PL club and he deserves that opportunity. Also, we have to maximize value on him. Which makes a January sale seem likely as he's gotten a lot of playing time in Walkers absence making him match fit or closer to form.

That is the level he is at, Fredericks et al.

What are you talking about? I am fully aware he is a fairly new phenomenan. I clearly acknowledged that in my previous post. But still, he has played almost 100 games for club and country in that two years which is an awful lot of games.

I don't expect Lahm, I have already told you he is no better than the youngsters we have at the club. But keeping it American, I would much rather we were signing Fabian Johnson that is for sure!

When he arrives, he will be our third best right back in the squad. If we do sell Naughton as you suggest, and Yedlin has been brought in as his replacement - they want firing because they are clearly deluded - unless we are getting some sort of ridiculous fee for Naughton.

Its quite obvious that you just dont rate Yedlin. The guy is 21 years old with loads of potential. Give him a chance. We dont know what the club thinks of Fredericks' ceiling, although i think he does have a fairly high one. His loan to middlesborough may well be with a view to buy too. We dont know the deal with Fredericks. But I think its probably a given that Naughton will probably be sold soon to maximize his value and because he can be a first team RB in the PL right now. Just not at Spurs as Walker is better with a much, much higher ceiling

Adrian: "He [DeAndre Yedlin] is anticipated to be heading over to Tottenham the middle to end of December."

"Adrian" is Adrian Hanauer, owner (might be one of a few) of the Sounders.

It was just mentioned in a press conference talking about the Sounders coach signing a new deal.

I'm not sure how he's done since the World Cup, I've not watched him at all, and yes I am basing my opinion purely on the game time he had, but as soon as I saw him at the World Cup I liked him and commented that I thought we should sign him as an alternative to Walker. I know it's often silly to judge a player on so little, but in those fleeting appearances (against top class opposition) he showed enough to suggest that he'd be ideal. When we were eventually linked to him and then signed him I was delighted, and I still am. I think at the very least he'll provide continuity in our system without us having to shank different types of players into Walker's slot, and at best he may prove to be a superb player for us who becomes first choice. I've read this thread and seen people's reservations about him but at 21 he's not going to be the finished article. What I can say is that I'm not aware of a current fullback of that age who has shown me as much as he did in his World Cup appearances and therefore to sign him up at such a low price seems like an incredible piece of business when you consider the fee we paid for Ben Davies (who I like), or, more ridiculously, the fee Man Utd paid for Luke Shaw.

You hit the nail on the head. Absolutely nailed it.
