For someone who is so fast, it is shocking how much he manages to slow our attacking play. Belts forward and stops to pass to a player who is being tightly marked as everyone has caught up. Also his desire to constantly have hold of his opponent when defending drives me nuts, it is asking to give away needless free kicks and penalties.
He's simply not a poch player. Fair play to poch for giving him a proper post-injury crack at it though.

some comments in readytogo:

- Two great crosses aside, let's not ignore that defensively he was poor with Man City getting us down the right constantly.
- he was responsible for at least 2 goals - Sterling roasted him. His positional sense and concept of 'marking' an opponent are zero. Looks like a winger shoe-horned into defensive position.
-Was alluding to the fact that his forward play was pretty good but defensively he needs work. Yedlin not the only one that sterling has ripped to bits. Had some decent spells in the game defensively to be fair. Glass half full type of bloke me.

Yedlin has so much physical talent, probably even more than Walker. It's all the between-the-ears stuff if he wants to take his talent to the next level. In that, he's similar to Kyle Walker. I think he's got far more skill in attack, and probably less ability in defense. It'll be interesting to see if this loan at Sunderland can be what it was for Danny Rose. Rose was a big liability in defense when he went to Sunderland and returned a far more well-rounded player. However, Rose's loan spell was under Martin O'Neill, not Dick Advocaat (Who might not even be there much longer).

I'd give Yedlin a 5/10 today. He was solid on his one to one defending but could have been stronger on Moses before Moses made the cross to score West Ham's first goal. He did nothing going forward--he only attempted one dribble which went nowhere--but I don't think Sunderland wanted him bombing forward which, of course, negates his best skill. Not a bad introduction, though, and he's clearly better than Van Aanholdt so he should stay in the 11. Of course, with a new manager coming in who knows? Too bad that loan to Norwich didn't work out.

It was something to build off of. Not a bad defensive performance. He has a another month or 2 to improve and show he should keep his place when Adam Matthews returns. Just hope he gets a manager willing to help him and build his confidence.

Playing tonight for the us. Just played a peach of a pass to Wood to tie it up deep in extra time. Came on as a second half sub and played pretty average up til then.

Will he struggle or improve under Big Sam?
Hopefully big sam will give him game time at RB. That's what he needs most. He needs most if he's going to improve. Game time and defensive coaching.

Think he'll get some time since he can run onto the long balls that Allardyce will likely prefer

I hope so the lad needs something to go his way to keep his confidence high.

Played well today. Really dedicated to defending and saw him cut out quite a few crossses, block shots and really did well to lock up his side of the pitch. Very promising signs for him. Also, the success under a new manager is the best thing we could all hope for.

DeAndre Yedlin - 7
Looking a much more competent full back than I expected, credit to him, he can only get better.

(Younes Kaboul - 9 (MAN OF THE MATCH)
Collosal. Won everything in the air, seldom on the back foot and polished off a superb defensive performance with a spectacular forward burst and first-time, left-footed assist.)
