I agree. But the same could be said for just about every player on the USMNT at the moment. Got to feel like Jurgen's days are coming to an end.
Love Jurgen but he's got to go. In fairness to him though, so do many guys on this team. I am so beyond done with about 10+ players on this team. The only ones i really like are nagbe, pulisic, johnson, brooks, wood, kitchen. The rest can fuck right off straight past go and not collect the $200. We have such a shit talent poot at the moment. Its quite sad. The sports rising tremndously in popularity here now so maybe in another 15+ years we'll actually be half way decent.

I agree. I still like Yedlin in the capacity of a USMNT RB, but there is just so much crap within the side these days. With that in mind, it's going to be even harder for guys like Yedlin, who realistically can't take on too much responsibility, to really be successful.

Various player ratings from last night:

DeAndre Yedlin, 4:Played fast, but not especially sharp. The penalty was unlucky, but unquestionably the right call.

DeAndre Yedlin(5) - His late first half penalty foul tells much of Yedlin's story from this one, as he was unable to have much impact moving forward.

RB –DeAndre Yedlin: 6 —Responsible for the penalty kick that made it 2-0, but made a heroic sliding block on Carlos Bacca halfway through the second half that would have surely made it 3-0, if not for his intervention.

My own take was that he looked a bit lost - almost over-coached. He did not seem to play with any instinct on when to make runs forward, preferring to hang back. US lost a couple of wayward passes from players expecting Yedlin to move forward. He always played better when he felt more free to make the attacking runs on the flank - but he seems so preoccupied with his defense now, that he loses his best asset.

The USMNT setup is totally shit for the way Yedlin is best utilized. He needs just as big of a role in attack as defense. He is a weapon bombing forward, but the USMNT attacking style is so rigid, slow/cumbersome that it totally goes against how he is best utilized. You want to see a guy like Yedlin keeping the width, sending in crosses and adding in attack while utilizing his elite pace to get back in defense to cover for lost possession. He's honestly a better defender while playing "catch up" then he is when he's facing up against his man.

It's one of my biggest problems with how Klinsmann is setting the team up. He's got really freaking good attacking fullbacks in Johnson/Yedlin but he's not putting them in a position to really impact the match by utilizing their strengths.

IMO, if he were to really set us up correctly, the fans and USSF would have a fucking heart attack as IMO, our best possible team we could field in this tournament does not include Clint Dempsey or Michael Bradley. Thats the thing most people dont get about this team. He cant drop those 2 players when they really should be since they've been complete shit for us recently. He used up all his good will when he rightfully dropped Landon Donovan.

In this tournament, Perry Kitchen and Darlington Nagbe need to be in the CM3 with Bedoya and Pulisic and Johnson on the wings with Wood at striker. Castillo at LB. Fabien Johnson is an attacking player whose good as a full back also but he's really found his home as an attacking wide player at Gladbach. Zardes has the worst first touch in football. A fucking brick wall has a better touch. Bradley is a complete waste even at his best position as a holding midfielder. Jones is old and we need to move on as a national team.

Was okay. Got caught ball watching a few times but it didnt cost us. was decent going forward. Put a decent ball in which lead to the penalty on the first goal.

Given Yedlin's rapid improvement in the last season, should we sell him or put him into our team for next season?

Surely there's a case that he offers more than Trippier. Walker and Yedlin are similar full backs with pace to burn.

It also makes sense for our team to have two full backs that are similar in style so it wouldn't disrupt our input from full backs if either play. I've found that you only get so much with Trippier and he is always caught out when 1v1 and gives away plenty of stupid fouls.

Lol, this reminds me of when people said this about Lamela. Trippier doesn't give away plenty of stupid fouls- in fact, I've looked it up, and he commits fewer fouls per 90 than any of our other full-backs (Rose, Walker, Davies, Yedlin).

Yedlin's defending still isn't at a high level, and his end product is frustrating. At least Trippier has end product- more than any of our other FBs.
