Dear Mr. Modric

It's been a couple of months since I wrote commenting on your interview when you expressed your wish to move to Chelsea. I was then unsure whether you had said it. I knew that you had, of course, but was hoping that I was wrong, and that any comments that you had made had been taken out of context. That you had expressed a desire to compete again in the Champions League and had merely complimented Chelsea on their habitual qualification for the competition.

So much for hope. In the meantime, all doubt has been erased. Not only did you give the interview but - advised, we are led to understand, by the insidious Kia Joorabchian - have reiterated your stance. You did, and still, want to leave Tottenham. I will not give my opinion on your actions this summer, nor recap the events from my perspective, but I would like you to know what I think should happen now. My views may not be those of most Spurs fans - indeed, they may be mine alone - but I feel compelled to share them with you.

As I write, there are three days remaining of the transfer window. I sincerely hope that Daniel Levy keeps his word, and that you are not sold. Not just to Chelsea, but to anybody. You may feel that this breaks the alleged 'gentleman's agreement' that you shared with Mr. Levy, as you maintain that he agreed to consider offers for your services. You may be right, but I suggest that your initial 'interview' and subsequent actions rendered any such agreement invalid. I am willing to bet that your 'going public' and joining forces with representatives of your prospective new club was not what Mr. Levy had in mind.

If, as I hope, you are still employed by Tottenham in September, I feel that you should be given a choice. You should be free to choose whether you wish to play for the club or not. If you do, I feel sure that you will adopt a professional attitude and give of your best. If you feel no affection for the Chairman or we fans, it is to be hoped that you would not want to let down your teammates, and would therefore play to your fullest ability. Or do you not even possess that much 'character'?

Should you not wish to play for the club, then you should get your wish. You should be allowed to do anything that you like - as long as it does not involve playing football. This will, of course, preclude you from playing any games for Croatia. Should you take this choice, it would of course mean that you would be in breach of your contract with the club, and you would not receive any of your paltry salary. This could be donated to a charity of the club's choosing (I think orphanages in Craotia would be a nice touch, don't you?) or - my preference - put towards the salaries of players who do give a shit.

You see, Mr. Modric, while I feel no great animosity towards you, I absolutely loathe Chelsea. To give in to that appalling club's bullying tactics would make Spurs 'their bitch', which would be intolerable. So while you may have to 'suffer' at Spurs, and not achieve your ambition of playing every home game in front of (and alongside) knuckle-dragging racist low-lifes, I'm sure that you will understand that it is in the greater good.

Just one final thought. In one of his innumerable quotes to the press, Harry Redknapp (another person, incidentally, who you have crapped on from a great height) said that you asked not to play against both Hearts and Manchester City because 'your head isn't right'. I'm pleased to say that I have the solution. If you remove it from your arse, you will find the view is much clearer. You may therefore see how pathetic you are, and decide to begin acting like a man instead of a spoilt child.

Regards,

spud

We really don't have many options now. We can't sell him this window. If he settles down and plays that would be great, but if not we should sell him during the next window to any club except Chelsea. I would also like us to look for any evidence that Chelsea have had direct contact with the player (which I doubt, but given their arrogance could be possible).

Well said "Spud", but unfortunately the rat face "Midget Neanderthal" probably can't read........

He keeps harping on about a "Gentlemans Agreement" ~ since when does this become more legally binding that an agreed contract between Club; Lawyers; Agent; player and FA?

The sad thing is he's not the first to act like this nor will he be the last. It will probably be Bale next year as well. Unless we get our own billionaire this will be the future for us, you could argue it's not even the future.

I still believe we have a team and a squad good enough to challenge for fourth place this year even without Modric, especially with adebayor now. I don't blame Levy one bit as I hope most people won't as I don't think anyone else around us would sell their best player to what we hoped to think was a rival this year. Nasri's different because of his contract situation. We've just got to get behind the team now whether he stays or goes. COYS

Perhaps someone should point out to him there's a world of difference between "consider" and "accept anything Chelsea decide to push our way however derisory".

Just amazes me what planet these guys live on.

Imagine any of us showing up to work and telling our bosses that we didn't really fancy putting in 90 minutes of effort because our 'head wasn't right'?

Just what the hell does he think he gets paid all those hundreds of thousands of pounds for? Let the deluded little elf and his weasely advisors rot.

Totally agree - we must not sell modric at any price this summer.
After the window closes then ask him if he wants to be considered for selection for this season. If he does then keep him with the first squad and if not then chuck him in the reserves until the next window.
Most importantly we should refuse to sell him to Chelsea. Other clubs will be interested and his value isn't going to dip below 20 mill so no problem.
clubs need to take a stand against players throwing their toys out the pram and getting their own way as soon as they feel that things look rosier elsewhere. Modric will leave on our terms not his or chelseas.

We cannot sell him now. He should be told that if his head is not right then he cannot play for the team and is not entitled to any pay as he has withdrawn himself from the team. He should then be told he will not play or train with the team for at least one month, then he can consider if his head is now right. If not another month away.
When he is finally sold, as I am afraid he will have to be, he should be told that it will never be to Chelsea and will only be to a team not in the Premier League.
I have lost all respect for him as I did with Berba when he tried the same tactics and succeeded in getting the move he wanted.
The Club is bigger than any player.

Why is that amazing?

When I get a better offer from another company, offering me more money and better career prospects, I jump ship.

That's exactly what modric is doing. Call him all the names you want, it doesn't change the fact that he has bigger things on the horizon that we simply cannot offer.

Get over yourselves people you really are all sounding pathetic.

I'd like to believe that, but the way the insults fly around this forum you'd think the club is going to die without modric.

Mate, I don't think the issue is selling him. The issues are (1) selling him to our direct competitor, and (2) getting the right sale price. We should NOT sell to our competitor and make them stronger while making ourselves weaker. In a sense, its a zero sum game. Secondly, if we have to sell to our direct competitor, it should be on our terms for the reason that we hold all the cards in this case. Modric is on a five year contract, and to let him go for 27 million + pittance in the form of Benayoun is the silliest thing Levy and our club can do. If Berba at 2 years left of his contract at age 28-29 years old went for about 30 million, can you imagine how Modric must cost ESPECIALLY that he is one our best players? hence in Modric's case, it is a seller's market.

:clap::clap::clap:

Spurs bias aside..... the choice of leaving a club with no ambition (no strikers in 3 transfer windows!) in favour of a team who can win the league/champs league and are offering to triple his wages is an absolute no brainer.

Levy hasn't signed anyone to take the club to the next level so I totally see where Modric is coming from as much as i'd like him stay.

The background to the Berba sale is the reason. Old Red Nose broke cover and made comments which were obviously intended to unsettle Berba's relationship with Spurs. When the deal was finally agreed, it included a significant additional sum on condition that Spurs did not make a formal complaint to the authorities about ManU's behaviour.

With Modric, Chelsea have been incredibly disciplined in getting other people to do their dirty work, e.g. agents and tame reporters. It seems there's nothing that can be traced back to CFC themselves.

After yesterday's performance, the statement that it's a seller's market is just laughable. Chelsea and Modric seem to be holding almost all the cards.

I think he'll go in the next transfer window for sure, but I'd like to see him out of the Premiership altogether and to a Croatian team or another European side.

We can do and will do okay without him because no player is irreplaceable. It's the team that matters and how it blends and gels, not just one individual however skilled they are.

From him being my favourite player, I no longer care if he goes and have got used to the idea of it happening because his attitude has to be unsettling to the other members of the team.

Why does Chelsea and Modric hold all the cards? If they did, Modric would already be there and no dilly-dallying would have taken place. We are trying to get fleeced by Chelsea, and you know it. There is no way Levy should just bend over to their whims. If the price is acceptable to us, then we let go. But i think its all academic now as we can't let him go not because of principle issues, but we just don't have any replacements lined up. And I aint talking about Scott Parker-type replacements.

pistolP.......... I remember coming on this forum and seeing your consistently negative comments regarding Martin Jol, how he was tactically naive, lost the dressing room etc and then your initial delight when Juande was signed on as manager. I also remember how you turned on him until Levy made the change bringing in Redknapp and now, true to form, you've turned on Redknapp also. I have to admit you're certainly consistent in your dislike for past and present managers.
What are you waiting for, a reincarnated Billy Nick? Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us with whom you consider would do a good job in the Spurs hot seat?

Because he doesn't want anyone to be able to say some things are his fault. One of the greatest self-publicist in the game.
