Declan Rice has stated that Tanguy Ndombele is ‘one of the toughest I have played against’ and added that the perception of the Tottenham midfielder is wrong, as the West Ham captain told Tubes and Ange’s Golf Life.

The West Ham United midfielder was reacting to how Ndombele gets ‘slammed and hammered’ but he labelled the out-of-favour Tottenham star as a ‘street footballer’, who should have the ‘freedom’ to play as he wishes because he is that good.

Rice is spot-on. Ndombele is like a street footballer. That makes him very difficult to play against individually, but not suited to being part of a disciplined team.

You can't have part-time passengers like that in a competitive European squad anymore, especially not in the Premiership.

The last European team I can recall that built its entire strategy around one maverick midfielder and covered for his inability or unwillingness to do any dirty work was Villarreal, when they were successful with Juan Román Riquelme in that role. Prior to that? Not many I can recall in this century.

The problem is he is so inconsistent and mentally fragile. On his day he is amazing, on the next he is a liability.

'Mentally fragile' you say , Hmm. I reckon a much bigger impact has come from the fact that we have made him enormously wealthy.
He doesn't have to get out of bed ever again, he is set up for life. Just sitting on his ass til his contract runs out is no problem at all.

Why bother with all this rough football stuff ? he'd rather just enjoy his massive wealth thankyou .
