Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have refused to meet West Ham's £7million valuation of Anton Ferdinand.

Spurs are in the market for a central defender and have targeted Ferdinand as part of their policy to buy young British talent.

A bid of £4million by Martin Jol is said to have been rejected by Alan Curbishley for Ferdinand who is rumoured to be surplus to requirements at Upton Park.

Spurs could go back in for Ferdinand with a £4million plus Anthony Gardner offer to try to persuade the Hammers to part with the central defender.

Only a year ago, he was rated as one of the best young defenders, what as gone wrong, would not pay 7 million, but for 4 million plus Gardner is a good deal.

According to a German source, Tottenham is interested in signing center back Christoph Metzelder from Borussia Dortmund, he is 26 years old and his contract expires in the summer. But he is injury prone. Other rumours say, that Sevilla is leading the race to sign him.

    (article is in German)

But it's not really a reliable source!

I agree and at the Spam he's been kinda the main man and had to do all his learning on his own, under Ledders wing he would improve a lot more i'm sure, 4mil + Gardner we cant lose.

naaa, we have a settled partnership of king n dawson, we shouldn't sign anyone who will expect to be in the first team regularly. just like berbs and defoe should be left to improve their partnership, and eventually jenas and huddlestone, so should king and dawson. Someone like Distin would do me just fine, someone who has lots of experience, is talented and athletic and who we can trust to play well whenever needed and play for a long spell if either of the others is sidelines (eg... kings operation). Also, Distin could play left back effectively which given our problems there would help indeed, and that also means he would play more because of his versatility. There would even be the option of him Dawson with King in midfield when we have the sort of midfield injury crisis that has recently struck because, lets face it, thats better than having to play any one of davids, tainio and murphy, with Zokora and Jenas both still not that convincing and Huddlestone still prone to youthful errors. I don't include Ghali or Malbranque in that because despite their central nature they are both wide players for us!

All that's been stated is that some English topclubs have shown their interests in Metzelder, but haven't contacted him yet.
Not a very reliable source indeed mate.

Rio was fortunate that he made his name playing in a time when Sweepers were used and so he had freedom to play, pass and attack. These days few teams in England (if any in the EPL) use them. Sadly in my opinion as the off-side law doesn't do any favours for a flat back four or any variation of it and it provided a great means of building an attack.

As a centre -half at manure Rio is not in the same class as he was as a sweeper and to me Anton is very much a poor mans Rio Ferdinand. He looks like a player who would benefit from being a sweeper like his brother but as an out and out centre-half I don't see him as being a player who would move us forward much if at all unless he is cover for ledley which probably is not in his interests as he is still young.

Where's the deadlock...they want to sell, but we don't want to buy.

    Non story!
