Defining moments

There are many moments and games that define a season but this feels like a defining moment for the Poch era.

We’ve made incredible progress over the last 10 years and nobody can argue that Poch has lifted us to a whole new level during the last four where we’re now ‘competing’ for trophies rather than simply ‘hoping’ for them.

Fans and players are all down after yesterday’s semi final defeat but listening to the post match interviews it’s the first time I’ve ever heard Poch himself talking about Spurs in the third person. This worries me more than the knee jerk fan reactions as I believe Poch is key to seeing us make that next step.

The next few months could define our future... Do we treat this as the end of the Poch era; say he’s taken us as far as he can and replace him with a ‘proven winner’™️ (memories of Jol/Ramos) and start a whole new transition into the new stadium or do we throw everything behind Poch and push on to see where he can take us.

I’m firmly in the second camp. Not out of some blinkered Poch tinted glasses but from a longer term desire of seeing us firmly embedded as a Champions League club over a longer period rather than seeing us drop back into being the ‘best of the rest’.

So where is everybody else on this:
  • Should we throw everything behind Poch
  • Has Poch taken us as far as he can

As if we’re getting rid of Poch

I actually disagree that we’re genuinely competing for trophies. We got further in champions league with redknapp and he lost two fa cup semi finals too. Sure, we’re doing better in league but yet never were realistically in shooting distance of the title any season.

Yet we play better football, we have developed a younger, better squad and we’re maintaining that level while moving ground. For that reason, i’d cling to Poch till he decides to leave. There’s no one better for us right now, we are in a unique situation. Proven winner will want guarantees we can’t give, for one

When Poch was employed his main task was to get us closer to the top 4 by the time we moved into our new stadium .

It wasn't lets win a cup before we move into the new stadium.

Poch has delivered , and more, on what Levy asked from him.

It’s really obvious when Poch talks to the press too. He manages Spurs like a CEO of a company, is why he can’t understand criticism from the media as in his and Levy’s eyes, he’s ahead of schedule and consistent to boot. I suspect he’s on huge bonuses related to timescales too. How this all interplay’s with the players timelines tho is fascinating

Quite

With the naming rights of the stadium coming up, the CL league will give us a totally different bargaining tool, Levy is creaming in his pants at what he will get if we manage to secure 4th...and as it will be our 3rd consecutive year in the CL, bidders will feel fairly confident that we can deliver CL on a regular basis, Levy will make sure of that.

Anyone voting for getting rid of Poch is mental.
It’s why I wanted to see the wider feeling on SC as I couldn’t believe how much negativity there was on our / poch’s limitations and i’d seen a few calls for him to be upgraded.

We have to be so careful that this moment doesn’t knock us back and try to build some momentum into the new stadium. I think Poch is key to that.

We tend to forget Poch is a relatively young coach and is still learning.

Even thou I am disappointed with his performance yesterday, I am still fully behind him. I just felt he has to take responsibility when the team doesn't perform as a whole.

Sometimes u get things wrong.

He seems really good in league matches. And cup games I think he still has a wrap his head around. Especially winning away at lower league opposition and playing on crappy pitches.

Think he will grow and improve along with the team. League performances is always a more important foundation for other things.

Pochettino has a great relationship with our current star players. If Pochettino leaves I can see Eriksen, Alli and the rest of them leaving as well.

We've progressed immensely under Pochettino despite not spending a fortune like the other English top teams. How many coaches can do that in this day and age? Pochettino is still young and with the right backing and support he and the club will win trophies. I'm all for Pochettino.

@aliyid you really ought to change the thread title so that people actually know what the poll is about. IMO. Up to you, of course.
Think we should remove the poll instead as 42 : 0 says everything and great to see the support for Poch.

Think “Defining moments” still stands as a title though as we need to make sure that we don’t allow this moment to define the Poch era (tried to remove the poll but can’t see how)

People keep saying we need to win something to keep the players we have. How about saying if these players cannot win something soon we need to upgrade them.
