Defining moments

I think Allyid has it right, it feels like a defining moment.
Coming out after the game yesterday it was a subdued sort of atmosphere, I know we lost and so it would be but I mean even any anger was subdued, it was more reflective and a realisation that we need another something that is missing.
Personally I think what is defining is that we have reached the end of the road for our recruitmant policy, we have got to the point where if we bring in players for the future or at the level we now have then we will continue as we are, our side will get better because our players are still young enough to get alot better but we are now at the point where we can go that extra level in fees and wages to bring in players to make a difference straight away.
I don't say we need to stop the old and start the new, we just need to add the new to the old, I also think after yesterday the argument that to bring in some big price tag player on higher wages than some of our existing players would destroy the cameraderie won't run any more, quite the opposite actually, if we spend the real big money on a high value player then our squad is far more likely to see it as a statement of intent, that we are not prepared to fall at the final hurdle any more and that's what they want.
Until now it hasn't been an option but with our big new shiny toy taking shape that changes and I believe it changes in a defining manner.

Lest we forget that Danny Rose said as much before. Players will know if the club and manager isn’t being supported to keep pushing forward. We can play better football than almost any other team in the league when on song, but we surely need more players who can decide the big games. They’re the big money players though.

Walking home yesterday surrounded by Man Utd fans. I actually approached one to be gracious
saying well done. You know what I got? a sneer do we want to be like that, support a club that when
they win it just feels false. I don’t I’m prepared to wait because I know when we do win a trophy it wont
be false, it won’t feel worthless it will feel bloody good!.

Also they see us as a major scalp now judging by the songs they were singing. We are not insignificant
to them anymore. Onwards and upward, secure top 4 which will be amazing imo. Then new stadium
I will be there in the South Stand cheering them on. COYS!
This is because the club from chairman to fan expect to win big games and prizes whereas our club only hopes to win those things, it's a mentality issue that stretches through the club that comes about from a cycle of winning.

Which is why we (Poch) should not be denigrating winning the League or FA Cup, the winning mentality has to start somewhere and those are the “easiest” to win. Mourinho always “Banks” one year after year.

Poch is right that the global perception of Spurs won’t change by winning these as compared to the league or UCL but it’s running before you can walk.

You won't find me disagreeing with you at all as winning trophies doesn't do you any harm at all and also keeps you relevant even if you have a slightly iffy season in the league.
Although the most essential job is to keep taking the club forward you can never underestimate the importance of picking up silverware on a fairly frequent basis it stokes the fires of a winning mentality that we don't have currently.

We’ve made incredible progress over the last 10 years and nobody can argue that Poch has lifted us to a whole new level during the last four where we’re now ‘competing’ for trophies rather than simply ‘hoping’ for them.
Yup, I’ll argue that mate. Not once have I felt that were competitive in any competition. You might dig up a post or 2 here and there where I profess some optimism - but rose tinted optimistic statements aside - never once have I felt the slightest glimmer of ‘competitiveness’ in any competition we’ve been in in a decade or more

There are many moments and games that define a season but this feels like a defining moment for the Poch era.

We’ve made incredible progress over the last 10 years and nobody can argue that Poch has lifted us to a whole new level during the last four where we’re now ‘competing’ for trophies rather than simply ‘hoping’ for them.

Fans and players are all down after yesterday’s semi final defeat but listening to the post match interviews it’s the first time I’ve ever heard Poch himself talking about Spurs in the third person. This worries me more than the knee jerk fan reactions as I believe Poch is key to seeing us make that next step.

The next few months could define our future... Do we treat this as the end of the Poch era; say he’s taken us as far as he can and replace him with a ‘proven winner’™️ (memories of Jol/Ramos) and start a whole new transition into the new stadium or do we throw everything behind Poch and push on to see where he can take us.

I’m firmly in the second camp. Not out of some blinkered Poch tinted glasses but from a longer term desire of seeing us firmly embedded as a Champions League club over a longer period rather than seeing us drop back into being the ‘best of the rest’.

So where is everybody else on this:
  • Should we throw everything behind Poch
  • Has Poch taken us as far as he can

We have here a manager who not only commands the respect of the supporters, but without doubt commands the utmost respect from all the players and staff. Just think of the enormity of the task to recreate that enviroment from scratch. All that we need is already embedded at the club. We do need players, I do not possess the tacticians knowledge, so I can't name the players we need or the positions. But I trust in MoPo to seek those out.

We are competitive to a degree and that is a lesser degree like we have seen for sometime now any big game's like yesterday we cannot get over the line it's failure everytime.

Competitive to win? When have you actually really felt we’ll win something?

We’re competetive for top 4 now. There’s that. I know it’s important but it doesn’t excite me so much tbh. Can’t recite the years we’ve top-4’d ...

That's what I'm saying we compete to a certain extent but after that it all goes South as always, like yesterday as soon as Utd got it back to 1-1 I always felt we would somehow find a way to lose which we did.

when we went 1-2 I knew for 100% there was no way back. Texted a concession txt to my Utd mate right then to pre-emp the ‘bantz’ :/

Similar here around the 82 mins Mark we left and I messaged another mate in the crowd to say it was game over he sent back a message that we are still in it, sadly I told him we could keep playing until Monday and the score would not have changed again sadly I was correct.

Poch could walk, maybe he feels that he has gone as far as he can.

Success was built on Lloris, Walker, Rose, Toby, Vertonghen and Dembele. By next season we could be left with three... One who is off form, one well into his 30s and one who has injury problems.

Poch could look and think he needs about 5/6 new player's, 2 cm, 2 full backs and a CB.

I know it's not popular opinion but do we have enough for a real challenge at a cup of a title, we are missing winners. Our players haven't won anything, and will we get stronger next year?

Personally I would integrate Onomah, KWP and a few other youngsters, sign the likes of maddison and Sessegnon and rebuild again but will Poch want to do that?

I hope so.

Agree. Additionally, after we had scored, I knew for sure that we would concede. We seem to have lost the ability to keep clean sheets lately.

Sat afternoon 5:26 - 5:39 :bag:

This was the first time I remember us going into a semi final against Man Utd as favourites and that’s not just from a Spurs fan perspective but from bookies too.

Even the Redknapp days we were always pitched as the fifth best team battling to make the top 4 whereas now many pundits see us as the second or third best team in the league.

sorry to say but it's that type of attitude that needs to change

was disgusted that so many fans around me up and left with 80 minutes gone. with 5 mins of added time there was 15 minutes to score - a sixth of the match.

you gave up, the support from the stands went at a time when the team needed it the most

don't need the story about the problems about getting away from wembley - we need to improve

Don't blame us fans for the defeat yesterday or last year this is all on the players and management we all saw after we scored that we could not find another route to goal the killer instinct if you like.
As for leaving early it was clear that we was never going to score anymore during that game my instinct was correct and was proven so, but at no point can you put the blame at my or any other fans door that is a disgrace.
