The striker, who rejoined the Club from Portsmouth earlier this month, speaks exclusively to our official monthly magazine about what makes him one of the most feared frontmen in English football.
As a person, JD oozes confidence both on and off the pitch, and although he admits some people may see this in a negative light, he would not have it any other way.
"I think people sometimes can feel intimidated or unnerved when they see confidence in people - in those who believe totally in their own ability and the way they carry themselves," he tells the magazine. "There will always be some who think it's bravado or arrogance, but it's neither of those things in me - this is just who I am.
"The whole world of football is crazy; there's so much attention over what you do and how you act, but when it comes down to the real business, I want to do nothing more than score goals." And scoring goals is certainly his area of expertise, with three already in the five games since coming back to The Lane.
Who better to talk readers through the special feeling of finding the back of the net? And what an insight Jermain gives.
"I think strikers are probably the luckiest guys on the pitch, maybe in the whole world of sport, because their job is so one-dimensional yet so rewarding.
"In your head, everything happens so quickly, but at moments it feels as if time has slowed right down and you are totally zoned in, concentrating on nothing other than the ball as it heads towards goal.
"For those split seconds you're unaware of anything else around you. I think that may be a sensation that only goalscorers are lucky enough to sample, but upon seeing the net bulge the celebration obviously speaks for itself."
