Who said that penalties were not meaningful?

It is however accepted by most people that it's more difficult to score from open play than it is to score from a penalty and most people would accept when comparing goal scoring ratios that it is reasonable to remove penalties from the mix.

If Berbs took the pens it's pretty likely that both he and Keane would have 5 league goals a piece and not the 8-2 that it currently is.

From open play, at the moment Bent needs less prem minutes than any of our other strikers to find the net.

As for your spacktard comment, if you are abusing or insulting people that are physically and or mentally disadvantaged then I'll let you decide what sort of person you are.

With penalties you still have to put the ball in the net. There's no guarantee that Bebratov would have. All we know is that Keane did (and Defoe didn't). Anything else is pure speculation. Any England fan will know a penalty is not a guaranteed goal.

Not knocking the penalties.

Merely pointing out that currently Bent needs less minutes to find the net from open play than any of our other strikers in prem games.

There's a few people looking at this the wrong way around.

Jermain keeps saying he wants a chance to prove himself, but why should he get in the team if he won't show commitment to it?

Keane and Bent both have shown they want to play for the club, not just by their actions on the pitch but in their actions off it. How would you feel if someone who'd shown less commitment got in ahead of you just because he was agitating for a deal? What sort of message would that send out to the other players? Tbh, JD should work it out for himself, sign the contract and it's a level playing field, otherwise you're fighting against players who by their actions have shown more dedication and loyalty than any amount of words spoken by him.

Very good point. Its not as if he is miles better than the others is it. So why should he be picked ahead of the others. There should be no guarantee of a first team place for anyone.

Fair enough. I haven’t slagged Bent anyway so no complaints from me

To see the best of Berbatov, I believe he needs to partner Defoe.
