To be honest, I am not sure that i am that disappointed. How many of us left the games against Southampton last season saying what a player he was and would like him. In fact, he didn't look that great in the game at St Marys.

I suppose it is just indicative of a lack of decent viable CB targets

And chambers is to be confirmed as a gooner tomorrow.....not content with selling half their first team they are now getting shot of the talent coming through the ranks!
I'm fancying a nifty with ladbrokes tomorrow on them going down....

I've not paid too much attention to Lovren but when I have he's made mistakes by not defending with enough strength.

Good CBs are incredibly hard to come by these days of course. Just look at how much Luiz went for.

Makes you think how incredible it was that only a few years ago England alone had Ferdinand, King, Campbell, Woodgate, Terry etc at their disposal

So, let me get this right, Liverpool have happily paid £49 million for 3 members of a team who came 8th last year? Madness just madness, and to think the biggest loss from Soton was Doctor Poch who came to us.

Hopefully Lovren, Lallana and Lambert will be the next Downing, Adam and Carroll.

Now that was a waste of money. How any of the money we spent last year can already be deemed a waste is beyond me.

Come the end of this season I think Paulinho will be the only one deemed a waste of money.

Possibly, he was awful in the World Cup but I am not sure that means much. I thought he did ok last year but as the season went along he seemed to get worse and I am not sure what type of midfielder he is. I prefer him further forward personally as he has a good eye for goal and seems better in the final third.

If anyone, Chiriches may be the fall guy as we seem to be looking for another CB and still have three others who are arguably better.

I'd be tempted to see what odds I could get on Southampton owners using the money to purchase Portsmouth FC and merging the 2 clubs...

This sums up why I'm confident we "won't do a Spurs". Its not about the 'names', its about the player who the Manager knows will fit his why of playing the best. Lovren, in-particular after researching him a lot nd watching his games, will be brilliant for us next season.

Also, how can you know Capoue is better than Can? I bet you haven't seen much of him and he hasn't played enough yet to come to that conclusion. Capoue hasn't played enough either for you imo to know what his true ability is yet.

As usual seems a lot of tribalistic wishful thinking trying to make yourself feel better about your wasting of cash this time last year. Thats just MY opinion though.
Capoue was considered one of the two best DM in ligue un with Matuidi

Can isn't considered one of the germans better youth players. He will be a tidy player but he wont be in your first 11.

Anyone who thinks Can is better at the moment is a retard.

We did waste our money and your transfer window has been better since we spent £45m on four players who play in the same area hence they could never do well. That said I think Lamela and Soldado will do very well this season and Chiriches was one of our better players under AVB.

I think Liverpool have had a good window since they have spread the money they got to whole squad. That said your defence still looks suspect and the addition of two spanish fullbacks would make your window alot better
