Totally understand he's still young and it's fantastic to have a 20 year old with such ability but it's not really the dip in form that's my problem, my annoyances come from parts of his game that shouldn't be there regardless. Ok the somewhat easy goal scoring chances he tends to miss can be frustrating but on the other hand he does get his share of goals still and I can take a few misses like that, everything in his mind is correct with such situations but he's just been unable to execute. He shouldn't even be thinking about nutmegging (for instance) players the amount of times he does though and that's something a player should know whether they're 30 or 18, there are times and places for it. It's just a really frustrating and unnecessary way for a player to lose possession numerous times. Do it in the final third of the pitch where in doing so you really gain an advantage at goal or you have no other easy option, not when we're trying to build something or retain possession.

He's an instinctive player so those nut megs and flicks are in his natural game. He won't always choose the easy option and he'll try something outrageous but that will be refined with age and experience.

I agree in part for sure but there are definitely times when he's fully conscious of what he's trying to do as well so it's not all instinctive. There are parts of his game that will develop and be refined over time but this is something I personally don't think he needs time to amend. Regardless time is on his side and he has plenty of time to develop and he's going in the right direction. If anything it's also frustrating as I think he could be even better than he already is if he just cuts out certain unnecessary actions. His finishing, passing, movement, anticipation etc. are all things that will be refined with time but you'd like to think flicks and nutmegs in the wrong areas are something shouldn't take so much time.

Hoddle says alli may be better than him

Slightly misleading...... Hoddle said Alli may end up being voted Spurs best ever player in 20 years time, ahead of Hod, if he stays with the club and progresses like he did last season.

That will never happen imo. I do like Alli though, I quite like his erraticness and there aren't many players around who try the stuff Alli does. When he learns the right time for his trickery etc on the pitch (and when not to), he could become a monster for us.

Good post.

Some of the criticism of him is ridiculous imo. I get that he can be frustrating, but often he's just as equally brilliant and can do things that no one else can do.

We should take a moment occasionally and just appreciate that he is ours and that he's still only 20. Personally, I'm of the opinion that he's only just scratched the surface of what he could be truly capable of and that is incredibly exciting.

Fantastic player. We are very lucky to have him, IMO. When his all around game comes together he will be phenomenal. Crazy thing is it looks like he's barely trying.

He's young and inexperienced at this level.
Most of his faults, lack of control, lapses in concentration whatever
can be coached and trained out.

Much of his talent, movement, confidence, instinctive play
are gifts that coaching can perhaps enhance but not supply.

Love this boy, expect the unexpected for years to come I hope.
Much more upside and promise than downside.

Everything about Dele Alli's game for me will always be epitomised by that game away at palace last season.

Was terrible all game, then Bam! Scores a goal of the season out of nowhere. He is still that player, and has a lot to learn still to add to his all round game. But he is a player capable of a bit of magic. And in a spurs team filled with industry and fight. A bit of magic is what we need.

I've been critical of Alli just in him not keeping his game more simple and trying too many flicks but you can't argue with what he brings. Seemed to keep it a lot more simple today from what I saw too.
