I know it sounds terrible but as much as I try and take a stand against his diving... I just don’t care.

I know I’m a total hypocrite, because if someone dived against us I’d be furious. But I guarantee you most football fans feel exactly the same as me, they just want to pretend like they’re somehow above it.

When Suarez and Rooney were diving did you see Liverpool and Man Utd fans wanting them banned?

He tends to shield the ball well, if he just played on instead of waiting he'd win the freekick he's after.

Also his technique isn't as good as he thinks it is, he can't play at his own pace.

The diving has to stop, it's affecting the team.

#thfc Hodgson: "I would advise Patrick [van Aanholt] not to square up to Dele Alli...my money would be on Dele." Hodgson also says he didn't think Alli dived.

He’s willing to do whatever it takes to gain an advantage for the cause. If a Dele Alli questionable penalty won us the Premier League or the Champions League only a mug would care.

Yeah he’s not the first to do it and won’t be the last. The problem is he will end up being denied far more legitimate penalties for us than pens he’s “won” dubiously.

Sometimes he does dive, sometimes he is legitimately fouled. The one by van aanholt was a foul, but the one against Hennessey he clearly started falling before contact was made.

Most players will make the most of a touch, that's standard. But Dele is starting to go down even before someone has touched him, and that's straight-up diving, and it's pathetic. And counterproductive, because once you get a reputation for it, you get even fewer decisions your way, because the ref will never give you the benefit of the doubt.

The unfortunate thing about the diving issue is that the match officials are partly to blame as well. Earlier in the season Harry Winks got clattered in the penalty area but stayed on his feet and got nothing. I hate diving, our players included, but players aren't 100% to blame.

This is so true.

I only restarted this thread after that Hennesy dive.

I love Alli but that was bad.

Unfortunately there are some fans who don't watch matches and didnt see that.

The only person to blame for diving is the player.

The net effect of not anticipating contact is shown in Jack Wilshere’s career. Gets a lot of credit for all his injuries right!? Diving used to mean writhing in agony after a swan dive 10 yards from another breathing human. Dele has gone down too easy before, absolutely but the witch hunt is just mental for a player committed to protecting his long term fitness and future.

So you reckon the Winks incident was OK then? I agree that the players are responsible for their actions, but I also firmly believe that diving for a penalty is every bit as bad as the professional foul that defenders get a straight red card for, and should be treated the same. Unfortunately though it has become not only accepted, but also expected. I wish we could get rid of it, but the officials need to man up on their decision making. When a player goes sprawling in the box and appeals for a pen the Ref should have a straight decision between penalty or no penalty/red card IMO.

I don’t have a problem with Dele. He gets in positions where he can win important free kicks and pens. Yeah a few are dives where he has anticipated contact and it hasn’t arrived. This idea that he is the only player making the most of light contact is a joke. Watch any game and chances are you’ll see a player rolling around like he’s been shot after minimal contact, yet up and sprinting 30 secs later. I wish it didn’t happen in the game but it does and why should Dele not go down when there is contact.

While I agree he's not the only one and certainly won't be the last one, he is doing it a lot more often to the point I cringe when I see it. Also it clearly is affrecting how the ref looks at him cause there have been at least 2 occasions where he had one a stomwall penalty only for the ref to say no. It's not just his diving, his rash tackles and also his twatish behaviour isn't needed, especially when he's underperforming by his own standards
