Dele is a brave footballer. He is always trying to cause defences problems they are not expecting and trying to unlock them Of course he struggled with injury this World Cup

His first half against Croatia was outstanding, He was comfortably the best player on the pitch at half time imo. But like the rest of the midfield he faded as Modric and co began to take control.

I think he'd be far more effective playing that role in a midfield 3 at Spurs simply because we have a proper playmaker in Christian Eriksen, so he doesn't have so much creative responsibility, whereas England don't have that player. I hope we see it this season.

He performs better with better players around him, hence why he is much more effective with his club than country. You need to show some sympathy with him when he is used to the guile of Eriksen to then have to manage with the panic of Henderson

Played too deep and too wide I'd say. He's much better influencing the game with less defensive responsibility. I think the disapointment will spur him on this season.

He ended up basically on the left wing, tracking their RB for most of the 2nd half, after they adjusted their tactics.

Going forward, Southgate has to choose between him and Lingard, the balance of the side isn't right with both of them. They both want to do similar things, occupy similar spaces, and have similar weaknesses.

It's good for us, because Dele will know he's really got to perform to stay in the England team.

Or, have Dele replace Sterling as the second forward in the 5-3-2, except with Dele rather than Kane wandering deeper as an AM from time-to-time. This was how Spurs used them when we had 3atb last year, such as against Real Madrid. Then you could have three out of Lingard, RLC, Dier, and Henderson to chose from in the midfield, depending on whether you want to be more attack or defense oriented.

For me I like to see dele in that pocket, getting balls on the half term. It works best for spurs when the press is higher and invariably we win the ball back with players more advanced so he has better options ahead of him.
For a young player he reads the game well and his weight of ball is normally very good. Didn't do himself justice in this competition however fitness and team tactics collectively didn't help.

The issue as many point out is there was not a midfield general / passer on the England side. Henderson was "protecting the back line" and the others are better off the ball runners and targets for that passer. Along with Young having to cut back in and hold play down the left, they were all restricted in what they could do on that side of the field.

Yep everyone should watch it. Would make people appreciate him. I’m not talking about spurs fans really, more England ones.

Yup it’s a great story, and how easily it could have gone another way. Massive respect for him making the most of the bad hand he was dealt in early life.

Start off doing the standard ?then straighten your thumb and bring it to the palm of your hand, all while it's still touching the end of your index finger which will have been pushed up. Other three fingers together below thumb and index finger to look like a shadow puppet ducks head ? hold that position and then twist your wrist round before simply completing the Dele salute or calling the ambulance, depending on how you got on

At home tonight with the wife and daughter trying to get them to do the Deli hand challenge, some laugh, it's near impossible to do.

Poch doesn’t think so. Maybe that’s why he’s such a great coach.

Is it just me, or does Dele seem even more mischievous and jovial than he even normally does atm?

He looks mentally refreshed after some of his struggles last season. His game on the weekend was the game of someone who had dropped the shackles of pressure and demand to perform, and a return to his carefree self who sometimes looks like he's having a kickaround with his mates, but in front of 10s of thousands of people.

It bodes well for us imo. He plays his best football when he's in that headspace, and the weekend was a good example, where i thought he was excellent. Looking forward to watching him this season.

I've just watched Poch do it and finally figured it out! You have to fold your 3 fingers down and then twist your wrist.
