Cant see the story being reported anywhere else yet.

Yeah it’s weird. Only in one paper and regurgitated by the Mirror. Nothing said by Poch or in the team news for today. If true it must have been spotted after training. He’s been wearing that strapping for 2 years so it must be an ongoing problem.

Given the lack of rest I don’t think it’s too much of a surprise that some of our World Cup players are picking up injuries. Sure we won’t be only club though to suffer from this even though it does feel like it at the moment.

We were the only club dumb enough not to buy anyone to support that tired squad, so we might be!

Love how the initial reaction to losing one of our best players for a month isn’t ‘fuck, we need him’ but instead ‘yay, a new stick with which to beat the chairman’.

We have Dele, Eriksen, Son, Lucas and Lamela competing for three positions. Who the fuck should we have signed to improve on that exactly?

It's superstition apparently...started wearing it after an injury, first time he stopped wearing it he got injured again.

I’m a fully paid up member of the ‘no new decent CM piss and whine’ association but actually get your point on this one. My frustration is that I wished we’d eased him back, instead of giving him the full 90 minutes in the Caravan cup. This’ll be his third muscular injury in the last 10-15 games (including internationals)

Maddison looks like a player, would of liked him.

Not sure if Yarmelenko fits the Poch profile but he would have been a good option to have today also.

And I too wish we had a new CM (though thankfully all options are fit currently). Dele is seemingly going through that spell where his muscles are having a bit of a domino effect on each other in getting strains and tears.

Neither would be good enough to start today even with both Dele and Eriksen out. It’s debatable if either would have made the bench.

Exactly it’s a very fine line. With everyone fit it seems pointless spending £50m on another AM. But the 2 Obvious squad upgrades were llorente and sissoko. Having them on the bench actually feels like we have nobody there. 2 flexible players like martial and grealish would have made a huge difference to squad depth.

not this again. People are paid handsomely by the Club to identify and secure new talent. There's a world out there. We play four competitions, twice a week during critical periods. Including the Champions fking League. Two of the players you list are priority cover for Kane (Llorente obviously isn't), and two more were widely touted by many (you?) as options for deeper-lying mids in defence of Levy not freshening up CM either.

A couple of injuries is par for the course, and the law of sod means they usually come at once in the same position. Let's hope Lamela and Dembele buck recent history and manage to keep going while we're short.

Moan all you like but we didn't need an AMF, it's CMF where we are lacking.

why is putting the contrary view to yours moaning? You're moaning about justified criticism of the last window. And the contrary view isn't spam, it's disagree.

I too wanted a box to box mid more than a Zaha or Martial, but we know what happened. There's a genuine correlation between not freshening the squad and the three defeats in a row, and now the concerns over injuries. You don't debate, just bury your head in the sand and say come back at the end of x- x being too late.

The way I see it is that we've clearly looked our best in the 4-2-3-1 in recent times. That means 4 attacking players. Right now we have six you'd trust between those four positions - Kane, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Lucas, and Lamela. That is nowhere close to enough! Given that you'll most often be making two attacking subs, and if not then certainly one, ALL of those would get minutes EVERY game if we're playing at our strongest. You'd really want eight or nine who could cover those positions well enough to allow for injury, rest and rotation. And we sort of do - the problem is that the other three are Llorente, N'Koudou and Sissoko.

Now one thing to note here is that two of those actually represent departures from our normal transfer strategy. They're players who weren't young nor cheap, and were signed late on in windows to cover holes in the squad rather than as investments. That's fine if they work out - but when they don't, it's an absolute disaster, as we're now lumbered with two players who a) aren't good enough, b) are on too much money for other teams to consider, and c) can't just be written off because we need to eventually get their wages off the books and recoup some level of transfer fee. So our squad is weakened for several seasons until they only have a couple of years left on their contracts, will consider slight wage cuts, and some desperate team takes a punt on them. There isn't a good solution to this - it's a problem that has to be avoided in the first place, and that means being brave and relying on the players however mediocre you already have rather than buying more of the same and compounding the issue. We wouldn't be in this position if, for instance, we'd persisted with Jansen after failing to buy a better option rather than paying £15m for a player in his 30s who'd completely lost his pace and doesn't fit our style.

Yep and this time last season we were without Dembele, Moura and Lamela yet we beat Huddersfield away 4-0
This squad is a lot stronger than people give credit for. It's only because we had several players miss large chunks of last season we fell a bit short.
