Surely Munich's stadium sponsership would elevate their comercial revenue massively? This is proably where where Barca are losing money on them. Done a quick google but couldn't find any figures.

We really need the new stadium, the extra gate reciepts and the massive naming rights will make all the difference IMO, not only for capital spend but also increase our salary cap.

But turnstiles are covered by "matchday" income. Commercial covers merchandising, sponsorship etc. for the purpose of this survey.

I would love to know how Bayern are squeezing €100m more through merchandise and sponsorship (and other) out of the world than Barca. I appreciate the German economy is much stronger than the Spanish, which is on it's knees, but Barca would seem to have the rest of the globe sown up, probably the biggest brand in football globally, and have for example two of the three most marketable players in the world right now in Neymar and Messi.

A look at their social media following is indicative of this with Barca trouncing Bayern 81m-26m FB and 13.8 to 1.8 TW.

When even Real Madrid are outperforming Barca by 40m I think Barca are seriously under performing commercially.

What do you mean even Real Madrid? They are the biggest club in the world, they are outperforming all other clubs.

Yeah, I didn't mean that to sound the way it did, I just think there is no reason why Barca should be getting outperformed commercially by Real and it will be particularly galling for them I would imagine.

Barca generally brought in less commercial revenue over the years due their Unicef work and other charity stuff. They never even had a shirt sponsor for quite sometime. Never understood that. I expect the numbers to start shifting now their approach is changing.

Because they didn't want to sell out and ruin their principals for money

That changed and the unicef sponsor got changed for the Qatar foundation who pay they though technically speaking they are supposedly a non profit organisation that just happens to sponsor terrorism

I think they typically have been more successful, commercially. Madrid are traditionally a more successful team and, I think, are far bigger worldwide than Barca.

Madrid, or at least Perez's Madrid, court lucrative commercial deals; Barca have always been a bit different in that respect.

I can't think of a single reason why that should the case recently ? They have been much more successful in recent years, have had the worlds best player as well as other iconic and very merchandisable players, and until recently played a very unique brand of football.

It would just seem to me that they are under performing commercially, even if not against Real, against Bayern and ManU ?

What disappoints me is the matchday income of Chelsea and Man City. Perhaps I've been deluding myself but I didn't think they were popular enough to out do us on matchday. I could imagine that they had a lot of foreign fans who've jumped on the bandwagon and I could even believe that a lot of tourists vist Stamford Bridge but I can't find an explanation for Man City.

The day that those two fall off their perch can't come fast enough. I can't even enjoy Man Utds current struggles because I've been cheering them on for the best part of a decade.

Well I think Bayern's success has been explained and United too are a commercial monster worldwide; but Real Madrid are the world's most famous club also have arguably the world's best player and have won 10 CL titles and are just 'bigger' worldwide than Barca in most
senses of the world. I don't think a few years of domination under Guardiola is likely to alter that almost self perpetuating dominance.

At least until recently, Barca didn't have the same drive or need to be so commercially successful. They are the Catalan team and any commercial support they gain is more a by product of their success rather than a concerted effort to market themselves globally.

This year's money league published today:

http://www.cityam.com/279270/tottenham-hotspur-named-11th-richest-club-world-after

Interesting that we've made up significant ground on Liverpool in just one year and that's before this season's Wembley excursion.

"They could climb into the top 10 and overtake Juventus in next year’s list, depending on which team wins their looming Champions League last 16 tie."

We're still quite a way behind Arsenal though.

Agreed. The Nike deal, naming rights deal for the stadium and other endorsements will help but if we're to significantly increase commercial revenue we need sustained success on the pitch. Regular CL participation and trophies.

Agreed it's not essential but would make a difference IMO. Winning trophies would over the long term attract more fans and a larger fanbase leads to more commercial opportunities. But yeah, regular CL probably more important.

Growing the commercial side is the way forward but also the hardest I suspect
