West Ham and Soton in the top 20?
Okay, Soton get an additional annual income from Liverpool but how are West Ham in it?!

Should hit £400m this season with Wembley gates and CL run Nike deal new shirt sponsor deal. Will certainly be a bumper year. Probably enough to cushion a season out of CL worst case scenario.

Broadcast revenue mainly I guess. Large stadium too.

Be interesting to see what the new TV deal looks like (announcement in the next few weeks I think)

The way things are going, PL clubs will make up 15 or 16 of the top 20 in 6 years' time

Will be funny if TV money went down. Clubs handing out these mega contracts like confetti. Levy would look like a genius lol.

Don't know why it's called "the richest clubs", since it's really only about the highest revenue. However, interesting that Chelsea and Liverpool has double our commercial revenue. United fetches almost our entire revenue in commercial revenue alone. o_O
Clearly, it's not the match day capacity of the new stadium that will propel us further. Even with the new stadium, it's highly likely that we will still be the 6th PL club in terms of revenue.

Not forgetting the 17 mill we are paying to rent Wembley. Makes a bit of a dent

Our commercial revenue is about 70m and Bayern Munich has commercial revenue of almost 300m

How is there such a massive difference?

I know there a pretty big club but bloody hell that is some difference!

True, but if it can get us up to Arsenal's area in match day revenue (which is the most obvious comparison), that's an extra £60m that could be spent on wages which actually is the thing that could "propel us further".

It will take a few years to really challenge but the stadium will give us a giant leap into the top 10.

Match day revenue will be far higher than Liverpool and Chelsea and the stadium naming rights will be an immediate boost.

Unless we have a complete collapse in form then we should be able to grow our commercial income faster than rivals who have 5,10,15 years in the limelight and command commensurately bigger deals.

I predict we'll be top 7 within 5 years

Bayern Munich ARE Germany, the most influential and successful footballing nation in Europe. They’re effectively Barca/Real rolled into one.

They’ve won the Bundesliga the last five years running, German cup 3 out of 5 (losing in final other two times), CL once in last five with 3 semi finals and a quarter final (they’ve made at least the knockout stage 9 out of the last 10 years, getting to Europa semi the one they didn’t).

They get first dibs on all the good German talent every year. They play to a 75k capacity now, have played to at least 66k for 50 years straight. Historically they’ve won the European Cup 5 times, the league 27 times and the German cup 18 times. Tourists literally buy Bayern shirts as mementos of going to Germany, let alone Munich.

We’re the 6th biggest club in England, getting 6th dibs on the best English talent. We’ve won the league twice, ever, and the last time was in black and white. We’ve won the cup 8 times but the last time was nearly 30 years ago. We’ve never won the European Cup and consider just qualifying a huge success. Our capacity till recently was 36k and had been for best part of 25 years, Tourists buy Utd shirts as mementos of going to England, and Arsenal/Chelsea shirts of going to London.

Let’s be honest, it’s only the ridiculous TV deal that puts us anywhere vaguely near them. They are a superclub

Pretty depressing when you put it like that but absolutely bang on the money.

It’s interesting Manchester United made virtually exactly same from winning EL as we did from CL in 16/17. In a weird way the Best European route for a club like us that’s very unlikely to win CL, is actually to get knocked out in CL groups and then win EL. As you’re getting financial benefit of CL groups but still have chance to win something and make even more money. Like this season if we lose to juve and Dortmund go on to win EL who’s actually had the better campaign. People make out EL is a disaster. But in reality if we were in it next year we’d probably be favourites and if won it actually get some silverware and the back in CL.

Thanks fellas, interesting and informed
and no rancour.
Should I be switching clubs after 60+ years?

Actually my other club is Real Madrid so I'll stick.

London and the Double in the early 60's are key factors here.
And Jimmy Greaves the uber HK.

Sorry :( But we have more in common with Schalke than Bayern. Let's not kid ourselves. Shows you the enormous odds Levy is up against, and why our economic model is the way it is.

Overtaking Dortmund on that list, regularly competitive in Champions League and second biggest club in Germany with the biggest stadium, is no mean feat.

I saw a report saying we could take over Juve next year and break the top 10 depending on new TV deal and how season plays out. We’re getting there, but some clubs will always be out of reach

Wenger has said that Arsenal are still hamstrung paying off the stadium. Doesn't seem they got the best financing deal if they are doing that. Thankfully ours should be paid off in 5 years or less.
