Leicester offer Demarai Gray bumper new contract after rejecting Bournemouth and Tottenham bids

Leicester are offering Demarai Gray a hefty pay-rise in a new contract after rejecting Premier League bids for him.

But many of the Foxes’ other unsettled stars face frustration as City’s Thai owners stick to their massive price tags which are deterring clubs.

Leicester’s mega-wealthy chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has no financial pressure to sell.

He has batted away bids from Bournemouth and Spurs for England U21 winger Gray.

Now MirrorSport understands Gray is being offered a new contract to hike up his current £25,000-a-week terms.

Gray ‘s representatives Luca Bascherini and Kenny Brady were seen at Leicester’s training ground on Tuesday afternoon for crunch talks to resolve the youngster ‘s future.

But both Bournemouth’s offer of £25m rising to £30m and Spurs’ bid were dismissed out of hand.

The only player that I would welcome from Leicester is Mahrez. He's several notches up from Gray on the quality-o-meter.

I would be happy for us to sign him, he has great potential imo but I doubt he would offer much instantly, he would be a work in progress with good coaching type of signing

FWIW, I personally rate DG highly. Kind of player who will excel very quickly under Poch. Please note, it was a back-up if we never got Zaha, at the end of the season. Why we never went in then would be disclosing too much.

You need to also understand, we do not have the liquid resources to go in early on the whole. We have to wait for prices to drop, and other bidders drop out, or look elsewhere. I got one have been converted, and DL was right. I can hear the BSoDL brigade-itisdeafening.com

Next season we will move early on prime targets. So stop the moaning and get on board the train.

NOTE
Not a done deal, but highly likely!

Sorry but with all the DL thing, you lost me

The last sentence is in reference to Gray then? ("Not a done deal, but highly likely!")

Poch himself said we need players to challenge the existing first 11 for their places.

If our answer to that is Gray then something's gone seriously wrong somewhere.

I don't care whether it's £30m or £10m. He's not good enough.

He is only 21, there is a fair chance he will get better. He has a high ceiling of potential imo

He is barely 21 to be fair to him. If Poch thinks he has the raw attributes I'll back him. Kane was in and out of Championship sides at the same age. As has been pointed out above he's played the equivalent of 11 matches, making his reduced output more understandable.

If he was from our academy and had put in these performances away on loan we'd want to include him in the first team squad. He didn't impress last season (who from Leicester did?) but he had a big impact as a sub in a number of their matches during the title run in in 15-16.

He looks like a tricky orthodox winger. Looked very much like Lennon, but nowhere near as quick.

I'm not saying he's shite or will never amount to anything, but he's certainly not going to challenge the likes of Dele, Eriksen or Son and he's not going to be a player in the short term to change a game in our favour.

We're supposedly trying to improve to win trophies and titles. We're about to play against the likes of Real and Dortmund in the CL.

Im really not sure why we need him. Unless of course we are sell Nkoudou which doesnt seem to be the case, from what i have seen NK looks the better prospect. Im not really sure what Gray's skill set is apart from running fast. I agree we need a fast, creative player who can dribble, create and score and yes maybe Gray will be that, one day, but if he does become that (which i am very sceptical of) then it wont be for a very long time, he's not really gonna help much in the present and i certainly wouldn't put him on the bench ahead of Lamela, Son or Nkoudou.

I wonder what world some of you live in, whether you rate Gray or not, when you think that at this time, in this market, when we pay close to the same percentage of our turnover on wages as the mega rich clubs anyway, that it is in any way feasible to sign a ready made attacking midfielder who will improve on any of the regular first teamers (as that is the only way they would improve out first team) when those first teamers include Alli, Eriksen and Son, with Lamela when fit also a regular.

Context: Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is not as good as any of those, has just cost £50m.

To improve the first team, you need to buy someone better than a first teamer. To improve our attack, you have to buy someone better than one of our regular attackers. Last season our regular attackers produced more goals than every other teams' regular attackers.

What we can do is improve on Sissoko and Nkoudou. Now, if we are to improve on them, the cost is still extremely high. So therefore we can spend that extremely high cost, probably circa £30m, on someone who is a bit better than average (as they are currently average), or we can spend it on someone with the potential to become a hell of a lot better than average, and maybe ever bloody fucking good, under our managers guidance.

It's not rocket science people. For fuck sake, you're not morons.

Nice, and I kind of agree.

But, they are talking about Pastore and the like in the ITK thread, so...

What you can't seem to get in your head is that some of us think that he's not an upgrade on Sissoko or Nkoudou. It's 30m down the toilet.
It's not rocket science, you can get it

Rather patronising post mate.

No one is suggesting we buy someone who can instantly improve the first team. Just a couple of players who can at least keep the first team on their toes or who can turn a game from the bench.

It's important to buy potential, but also important to look after the short/medium term because the current squad won't be hanging around for some potential in 3 years time.
