Don't normally comment on the ratings I give, because that's nearly as lame as making a post about receiving a negative rating, but just FYI, @BringBack_leGin, it was me who Disliked your post, not @DCSPUR (who actually Winner-ed you). Reason being that you couldn't make your argument without the patronising implication that people who don't see it the way you do are morons. Hope the explanation brings some much-needed carthasis.

He looks like a tricky orthodox winger. Looked very much like Lennon, but nowhere near as quick.

I'm not saying he's shite or will never amount to anything, but he's certainly not going to challenge the likes or Dele, Eriksen or Son and he's not going to be a player in the short term to change a game in our favour.

We're supposedly trying to improve to win trophies and titles. We're about to play against the likes of Real and Dortmund in the CL.

Eriksen and son didn't light up the place in their first season either.
It's unfair to expect gray to come in and be a instant starter and quite frankly we can't afford a player like that

What you can't seem to get in your head is that some of us think that he's not an upgrade on Sissoko or Nkoudou. It's 30m down the toilet.
It's not rocket science, you can get it

Just how much have you or anybody else on this forum seen of him to actually make that judgement? There is so much more to assess than the few snippets you see on the pitch, and that is what our manager and scouting team are paid to analyse. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's note there.

Rather patronising post mate.

No one is suggesting we buy someone who can instantly improve the first team. Just a couple of players who can at least keep the first team on their toes or who can turn a game from the bench.

It's important to buy potential, but also important to look after the short/medium term because the current squad won't be hanging around for some potential in 3 years time.

Patronising yes, maybe unwarranted but there's only so much patience one can have with the level of banality this forum has reached lately. This forum has become one third RAWK (in terms of delusion), one third KUMB (in terms of stupidity) and one third Redcafe (in terms of arrogance).

So what are we doing here on a message board if we can't give an opinion??
The manager and scouting team also signed Njie, Nkoudou, Sissoko and Janssen. They may have better judgement and experience, but it doesn't necessarily mean they will get it right.

If you wanna trust them blindly, you can do it. But maybe you should accept that others don't want to do that, and have a different opinion.

1. I didn't exactly have a go at DCSpur, just made what I thought was a funny joke. But I'll leave it as is as it's fun to laugh at myself.

2. Maybe I'm being a dick by being patronising, but you'll note that I did actually state that people those posters weren't morons with quite some ferocity, so how you infer the opposite it intriguing. And like I said in my next post, my condescension is the product of frustration with an entire summer of bearing witness to grown men (and I assume some women) acting like teenagers in a school ground.

Anyway, back to Gray. It's going to be anticlimactic if he's our answer to a WF after the positive vibes coming out of the itk today.

I think I'm gonna start posting in Chinese because it will be understood no less.

I've never said we must sign an instant starter or ready made world class player. Just someone of sufficient quality that means Dele or Eriksen don't get complacent or an injury to them isn't devastating to us. Only Son comes close to providing that and it isn't enough imo.

I don't trust them blindly and I have criticised them vehemently when necessary, I also openly question many things our manager does despite thinking that he is amongst the best managers going. I fully accept that people have opinions, I fully accept that people feel Gray isn't good enough, what I can't accept is grown men throwing their toys out of the pram in outrage at the thought of us signing this guy, it's those same people who will wait for him to make mistakes so they can say I told you so, it's those same posters who will sarcastically applaud the guy and mock him loudly if he tries something and it doesn't come off. (the treatment of Sissoko on Sunday was abhorrent, regardless of what people think, especially when Dele, Eriksen and Son were all far worse all game long). Frankly, I'm fed up of entitled fans who act like children.

Which one are you then?

I'm an unholy trinity of all three :D

on one hand I agree. on the other, having watched him play for Eng u21s over the summer, I was impressed by some of his raw skills. granted, these tournaments can flatter to deceive (see Sissoko, etc for proof). but, i'm mildly intrigued to see what Poch could bring out of him. He's so young, you can't help but think that under the right tutelage he could be crafted into a very effective player.

so, for me, it largely comes down to the price we pay, and if he's the only one we bring in to fill our attacking void. too expensive seems silly. an immediate panacea, he is not. so, gotta see it in context of everything else that happens first.

Anyone who is good enough to challenge dele or eriksen instantly so not to make them complacent, is out of our price range unless we get extremely lucky.

Difference is it's them writing the cheque. I don't think they're just buying players on a whim or blindly.

What was Dembele doing at this age? Poch always said he'd love to have had him at a younger age, he'd have made him one of the best in the world. Let's trust him and the vision he has for the young players he wants to sign. We don't sign world class players. We make them. Perhaps Gray along with Sancho and Sessegnon are the new set of stars for us.

Lamela was playing really well before his injuries. Hopefully he will make a full recovery. Would be like new signing.
