As wonderful as it is to watch him in full-flow, its not a bad deal all round considering, his age, fitness etc. I prefer to get as much as we could for him, whilst researching the likes of Ndombele, Frenkie De Jong to replace him.

It would be a shame to lose him, however, if he wants to leave, then its an opportunity to another player to stake a claim & we also have Onomah to return.

Why would Dembele or his agent suddenly talk of him leaving this summer, just before a semi-final?

Onomah is nowhere near ready being a regular sub, let alone a first team player.

To be fair, it's an elaboration on another story that was doing the rounds about a month ago, in which Dembele was said to be looking for a final 3-year contract at Spurs. According to the reports, Spurs were unwilling to offer more than a single year extension to the existing deal, which will expire at the end of next season. By then, he'll be 33 and, as this article suggests, probably unable to maintain the level of athleticism that's required to play a full part in a Pochettino team.

Oh look, destabilising cobblers before a man Utd game...

He's a key player, and no reason he wouldn't be for another couple of seasons.

Walker - World class right back (Gone)
Toby - World class centre back (Gone in the summer)
Rose ?
Dembele ?

We simply can`t continue to sell our best players (if we want to be successful that is).

I`d give him the improved three year contract his agent demands. He is a unique player, and a brilliant one at that.

So the article references the Daily Mail, apparently to try and give some credibility. I repeat. DAILY FUCKING MAIL.

I’m pretty sure Levy and Poch know what they are doing, and that the Mail knows fuck all.

I haven't seen anything of Onomah in a Villa shirt to suggest he's ready for the step up either. Was said to have played well last time out but, tbh, I've tried to keep tabs on him but seen a lot of dross and lost interest.

But there's a big point to consider here.
Walker - World Class now - Pre Poch was nothing more than a good fullback
Toby - World Class now - Pre Poch was let go by Ath Madrid and playing at mid table Southampton
Rose - World Class before his injury - Pre Poch he was good but not world class
Dembele - World Class now - pre poch he wasn't even consistently in the first team.

Every single one of our players has made improvement and stepped up a level since working with Poch and Walker aside no other player has left and gone on to better things or made more progress than we have as a club

Why are we talking about letting one of our players of the season leave!? He's been immense this season! Keep him as long as he's happy to stay!

That`s the problem though. When our players reach the highest level, we seem to ship them off.

That`s simply not a long term strategy for success.

Unique and brilliant maybe but I have doubts about the value of a 3 year contract with our budget.

Keep his salary, maybe a small improvement and bump up his bonus package. That may be incentive for him to assist and score, neither of which he has done this season. But he brings so much more. Definitely worth the three year deal. He would be our Davids, but already in tune with the club's mentality.

That's OK, but with his recent injury record I think that will get worse and worse with age.

Same could be said for any club relatively speaking, except Real Madrid and Barca.

We should be very aware of our place in the food chain and where we were previously. Going from a mid table mediocrity to perennial challengers (and we are challengers) its no wonder our best players will be courted by the teams above us in the chain. If they weren't we would be doing something wrong.

But with that in mind players should be very careful about the bright lights of other clubs and remember the style under which they have reaped so many plaudits may not be replicated at other clubs. Similarly to how players, like Ljungberg, Hleb, Pires, left Arsenal in the 00s and never managed to replicate their ability

if there's anything in the article, which I doubt, it would seem to be saying that Dembele wants to go, in which case we won't be getting anywhere near what he'd be offered to play in China. Add to that that we could get a decent fee for him now and that offering him a 3 year deal would most likely become extremely costly towards the end, I could see it happening.

It's hard for him at Villa because they play him behind the striker, he is better as a central midfield player in front of the back four.
