Mousa Dembele’s preference for a three-year extension to his contract threatens to further complicate Tottenham Hotspur’s desire to find an agreement with the Belgian midfielder.

We should be thanking our lucky stars he wants to stay. An absolute beast. His intervention in the box against Chelski, where he fought off three people and then got fouled, was a marvel to watch. Such class doesn't come around too often.

i doubt age will affect his ability. His game is based on strength on the ball rather than speed and Poch's training regimes will keep him able to maintain a high level of ability

Wouldn't begrudge him 3 more years. He's been one of the foundations of our turn around and deserves a good final contract from us. I'm sure that agents are responsible for a lot of the massive demands players routinely make though and I expect some tough negotiations along the way. After all, a lot of what brings new clients to an agents door is being able to say 'Look at the deal I just got for X player'.

Even if he wasn’t up to it in his third year I’d have him around just to influence the kids. The whole squad is already in awe of him.

One year certainly but he might have to settle for two if he's lucky.
Don't think Mauricio does sentimental attachment unlike fans.

Beast of a player, often described by team-mate's as the best player in training.

I'd be all for giving him his contract. Yes his ongoing injuries will need managing, but that's been the case on and off a while now in any case.

A totally unique talent, and I think his maturity and experience is a very valuable asset to have around the club.

2 years with an option of an extra if he plays in x league games in the final season. That seems sensible all round really

This. He'll know towards the end of the 3 year deal there is a good chance he wont be playing each week like he does now but having him in the squad with his experience for the kids to learn from along with his immense ability will be invaluble.

To keep him long term as a potential coach/youth development bod would be very, very valuable.

If I had my way he’d already have half of the academy players watching his every move, studying his body shape and how he collects the ball to move past the press.

Sign him up for life (y)
