I am under the impression CH can not get the best out of players and a lot of people who come to Spurs go backwards performance wise.

It is my opinion.

Fair enough mate all entitled to our opinions. But blimey you don't half take it to an extreme

You mean his poor close control like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XACY0YRebo

It is this kind of rubbish that irks some of us who understand the game a little better.

When you say lack of control it is just utter fucking piffle. He has amongst the best close control in our side. he is actually better under pressure than any of midfielders. And probably better at escaping a man up him than Carrick was. I don't remember often seeing Carrick drop a shoulder and leave his marker. The easiest way to stop carrick playing was get up him and many teams did. The same for Huddlestone. Thankfully zokora is not so ruffled and it is one area of his game that he clearly excells.

It's really hard to spray it out wide when your wide players keep drifting in because they are actually CM's out of position. And our strikers movement off the ball often consists of making a run behind the defence and expecting a miracle ball. if the actually dropped and moved into space it would give the midfielders an outlet more often. You watch in a game how many times Keane and Berbatov are standing on the edge of the penalty area with spitting distance of each other static.

You say carrick would have always been in the right place but carrick played in a more defensive spurs side and Jol said so himself when describing our tactics last season.

:clap:I don't understand people who say he has terrible control. go back and watch any game, not just clips and see how comfortable he looks when he receives the ball in tight situations. You can't do that if you have bad control. If people can't see that then it doesn't say alot for there footballing knowledge. They've probably never played the game, Only ''watched'' it.

I have taken it up a notch because I don;t want Jol to go the same way as all of the other managers Hughton has "helped" over the past decade. He even got his national team manager the boot!

Correct. He was not nicknamed the Maestro for nothing.

He is WOEFUL at finishing so a lot of noobs equate it to him being a bad player.

And you're entitled to it, but come on, perhaps Hughton isn't up to the grade but to blame him for Raisak is nonsense. He was out of his depth in the Prem it's simple.

Yeah but we are incapable of polishing turds if you know what I mean.

Players come in and show promise, BAE, Ziegler, in fact the list is ENDLESS, almost criminal and nrealy all of them came in and predominantly got worse and worse.

I have said it before, the only players that play good for us from the get go are already proven/expensive. The last players we brought through the ranks that are any good were Ledders and Sol! And that was Lillyshawl and El Tel that got them motoring.

Okay, can you find a quote of a player thanking Chris Hughton for his training? I have seen some praise for Jol and Defoe thanked Moniz recently but I can't recall a player dedicating anything to Chirs Hughton. And he has been with us for over a decade.

Ok what quotes of players can you recall praising the specific coaching staff other than the manager?

Can we close this thread now please?

I hate it when people try and do down our players in order to boost up another.

DZ is not the finished article. He's certainly not as good as Davids at his best (I know, stating the obvious), who I think he was bought to replace. He's been caught more than once dwelling on the ball or playing silly passes in dangerous areas, he also doesn't take the game by the scruff of the neck often enough. In fact he's done it on few occasions and for the tough tackling 'spikey' midfielder I think he's meant to be. He has a distance to go.

However, his first season was on a par with, for example, Essien's. I hope he'll develop and think I've seen enough signs to encourage me that he will. There are enough natural attributes and 'good games' to suggest he can. Maybe it's first season syndrome, maybe it's not, time will tell, but I'm pissed off that so many 'sensible' posters are going over the top in their criticism. They're doing him down beyond reasonable commentary, more than that, they're not giving him the credit he deserves.

DZ is currently a very good midfielder but flawed, I hope by the end of this season I'll be able to do away with the caveats.

After reading a lot of this, skipping other bits cos you know... time. All i can say about Zoko is this. If he sticks to what he's best attributes are - we all know them - he can/could be great for us. When he tries too much he tends to fall flat.

I see him as the sort of player that should be able to take the ball from deep and drive forward with the ball (the rest of the team have to run with him though) and play a simple to the side, to another midfielder, to a striker, whatever.

When he does that, and concentrates on that he does it well (see some games last season). Anything else needs to be perfected on the training field and brought into his professional game later (e.g. stop shooting.... please.)

I'm sure all this and more or less has been said though as this is a ten page thread but i notice so many people trashing him when he does clearly have some talant when focusing on his main attributes

Top 4 though? Hmmm...

First of all, big fucking deal, he did a roulette so what? I've done a few of those in my time myself and beaten some players in the process. I'm not a brilliant player by any means.

Secondly, to say he has such good close control because he can beat a man is nonsense. He has pace, end of.

Carrick hasn't got tremendous pace, but, if you remember in his last season for us it looked like Jol had given him more encouragement to go forward and he went on some lovely runs. He pretty much skinned the whole of Arsenal in one of those games before admittedly choking with the shot at the end. Every time i see Zokora go forward on one of his runs he either loses the ball, does a terrible shot, or dives.

All Zokora can do is fucking run mate.

I really can't be arsed to repeat the same shit over again so I'll just say that I think what you said is bollocks and if you can be arsed you can read through the fucking thread for an explanation as to why.

Maybe we should have a Zokora Black Hole as well as a Jol Black Hole. I see someone's already suggested a Robbo Black Hole.

Or maybe 'Didier Zokora Tonight' should replace 'John Barnes Tonight'.

So is anyone saying that he never had a good match, Based on that performance he should be staring away at Newcastle, he humbled Liverpool's midfield, every time they were looking to break away and score he was there to clean up the situation even i was surprised. He needs to fix up on that final ball but what we need is that player in front of him to be the link with the strikers eg Taarab, Prince or...

No it was not on par with Essien's. First of all, the expectations the media and fans had of Essien because of his price tag and the way he handled his transfer to Chelsea were too big, but everyone knew at Lyon he was an exceptional talent. And he was young too.
Zokora was nothing especial in St. Ettiene, and in fact, the team improved a hell lot without replacing him the season after, which atleast indicates they didn't miss him. People believe Zokora's performances were on par with Essien in his first season by comparing the way they were both treated by the media or fans, not because of the quality they produced.

Personally - I like DZ - he is a good hard working athletic mid fielder in the same mould as Edgar or indeed makalele - just right now he does not have the creativity - but then that is why you have a TEAM - that way they support each others weaknessess

Our problem is that we do not have a creative mid fielder that a DZ can pass to having won the ball - look at makalele he knows he cannot create to save his life and his job is break up attacks - win the ball - pass to someone to create something - it's the someone to create something we don't have - that includes lennon by the way - maybe Hud is that man to create if only he did not move in slow motion
