Eric Dier found it impossible to hide his frustration on the pitch from the moment Ben Foster stole the ball from a ball boy to delay a Spurs corner in the first half.

Once he's has made the ref aware of what is going on he should leave it to someone else in the team to get on the refs case the next time. Persistently ranting off at the ref could get you a deserved yellow card (ooo look it did) and potentially get in the way off the refs monitoring the situation he is already aware of. Not sensible.

It's perfectly understandable that teams want to waste time to lower the tempo and make both opponents and the home fans frustrated. But the way Jones dealt with it this time around was a travesty.

When foster actually nearly tackles a ball boy in order to win the ball from him so he can waste some more time, then a yellow is way overdue.

Also, the incident that ended the first half. 30 seconds left of the half, play gets stopped due to head injury, Foster gets the ball to start the game again, preceeds to hold the ball for 10 seconds, boots it upfield, and Jones blows for half time. Where did the 20 seconds go?

Seen on Twitter (not always the most reputable source I know) that the ball boy has badly bruised fingers. If that's the case Foster should be looking at a ban. What he did was well out of order.

easy solution, take the lead in the home games.

nice and early if you can, go one nil up.

that way they will come at you for parity.

I hate all this time wasting but I can understand that any team will play to their strengths and would be stupid not too. It's up to the officials to implement the rules and the law makers to make them fair. What we need to do as a team is not shoot ourselves in the foot. Maybe soon we will start league games as though players had not been up all night on the razz

Foster had nothing to do with the draw on Saturday. We failed yet again to break down a team that sits deep.

Looking for excuses appears to be the thing now with this team. Size of the pitch, injuries, time wasting.

The first eleven need freshening up and that was all too obvious on Saturday. Eriksen and aside from his assist Dele were poor.

I'd like to see Dembele start against Leicester and Aurier at right back, with Rose on the left.

It is the captain's job to query the ref when this kind of gamesmanship goes on.
I'm curious why this fell on Dier rather than Kane who has been effectively the outfield captain.

Maybe because the ref tended to be closer to Dier than Kane when the offence was taking place. Kane was very close to the keeper and stood with his arms raised whilst it was occurring and Dier was talking to the ref. Vertonghen also had a long chat to Jones as they walked off for half time. What Foster did was disgusting.

Maybe it’s time the rules were rewritten to make sure at least 75 minutes of action takes place. Saw a stat today that suggested WBA usually play 55minutes and that on Saturday it was over 60 which is really high for them. Time perhaps that the clock is stopped and restarted as in many Sports? Cricket had to introduce a minimum overs per day rule as players were slowing things down in a ridiculous way and insulting the fans and spirit of the game.

I have 5 disagrees above but the only debates you are finding on this matter is that the ref should be taking action before he did. No one who isn't a Spurs fan is debating whether Dier should have been booked or not. The live commentary when I was watching the match was that Dier had been going at the ref all game and talked himself into the book. Silly in my opinion.

As far as I could tell, the ref was well in on it.

He ran down the pitch with 1 arm up EVERY single goal kick and just as a riot was about the break out, he'd use the other arm to wave the keeper to make the kick. It was as if he was holding up the goal kick?

Imo, time wasting is as bad as diving and needs to be irradiated with immediate bookings.

these constant excuses are starting to do my nut in. I could understand if there were any decisions that directly affected the result, but Foster's timewasting certainly didn't. yeah it's not nice when we're on the receiving end of it, but let's not get all sanctimonious about it now.
