Calm down guys, Poch has only spoken the truth. If Dier wants to get upset about it he can go.

He's an adult not a baby.

Daily Mail shit-stirring before we play Liverpool and Man Utd? Shock horror, it's so unlike them...

Considered all of this (and they are fair points); still doesn't feel right one bit. Not to me, anyway.

Just weird, weird timing. Just doesn't seem necessary or required at all.
That's where the money comes in.

The only bit so far that's new is the rafting in argentina. Walker wanting to leave and dier being chased by utd everyone knew about.

The same one's who continually questions Poch's tactics and team selctions eh? ;)

He's slowly seeing the light...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5004535/Tottenham-s-Mauricio-Pochettino-BC -Eric-Dier-agreement.html

Poch admits to BC "knowing better" than Mourinho about Dier's best position, contrary to the Lemming mantra.
  • Mauricio Pochettino was worried when he saw BC critiquing Eric Dier's midfield performances
  • Dier and Mourinho conversed in Portuguese at Old Trafford in December 2016
  • Pochettino and Dier spent four hours discussing it and came to the conclusion BC was right.

I agree with most of this, but then why do it at all?

The incident (with Dier/Jose) happened more than a year ago but Dier is still here and getting lots of playing time.
Maybe the timing of the book's disclosure is to show that all is now well between Poch and the players and it is being used as a counter to all the negative reports about Kane/Alli/Poch to RM, Eriksen to Barca, Rose to United and Sissoko to PSG.

(Ok, I jest about the Sissoko part)

Not really feeling the need to wet the bed on this one so far. Not always a fan of washing dirty linen in public but there is also too much secrecy and PR managed bullshit in football. You can only judge case by case, what's said, how it's said, the intent and effects etc. and I'm not really feeling apoplectic about this little revelation, it was already common knowledge that UTD were interested in Dier. I'm on record many times as being baffled by the fuss made over "tapping up" as everyone does it, it's logical when so much money and upheaval is involved that players would be sounded out by prospective buying clubs, it's impossible to stop, and I think if you de-regulated it it would be much less of an issue and cause players and clubs less ball ache.

All Poch is doing here is addressing an issue that was already in the public domain, he's not gone OTT or slagged off the player, he's just tried to demonstrate how he dealt with it and tried to resolve it positively.

As for the timing, this isn't in our control I would imagine, would prefer it wasn't released mid season, but I would imagine this is the most headline grabbing stuff, being dropped to help sales in a few days, if so, hardly catastrophic.

Lets see what the rest of the book says eh ?

I've read people comparing this to Rose's crass, nasty little diatribe, but it's nothing like that at all, Rose basically slagged off the club - the club that had been paying him handsomely for doing fuck all for 8 months - grumbled that 3/4 million a year wasn't enough to do the thing most people would love to do (I don't mind players being paid a fortune, but publicly moaning about it not being enough is fucking crass when there are people living in utter poverty everywhere), announced he was great player before Poch (which is bollocks, he isn't even a great player now, but has definitely been improved by Poch). Then belittled signings the club had made, signings he has to "google" (I guess he means the likes of Eriksen, Dier, Alli, Vertonghen ?) when he knows the club doesn't have the budget of ManU or ManC.

It was crass, conceited bollocks.

The fact is that tapping up is illegal and Mourinho has already been caught out with Ashley Cole. If it's going to remain illegal, Mourinho should be hauled over the coals again, otherwise, what's the point?

Those getting their knickers in a twist should remember that Fergie released about 6 or 7 biographies while United manager.

Didn't michael Owen release one when he was 17? Think it was about how much homework he got that week or something.

Interesting read.

None of it is news to us apart from Poch confirming it publicly.
Maybe should've waited till dier departs if he does.

I think dier is equally 'good' at CB and DM. Don't think he's in that very good bracket yet personally.

Nah. If anything it's a vanity project / a way to message to players, academy players and future players.

I just think it's very ill advised.

But TT, every time we get one of those warm and fuzzy insights into Poch's wonderful man management you're all for it. This is pretty much just another case of that, with a little dig at Mourinho and Utd for tapping up and marking players cards that they've got to careful too, no ?

I can't say it worries me, as much as some on here try to make it a catastrophe of PR and counter productive to team spirit.
IMO Poch is just telling players to focus on our team/club, not get distracted by the Mourinho type characters and concentrate on their own performnces. I think the Walker part is great to know and we should get to know the reasons for his sale. Dier's situation is different but, whilst it may be ill advised timing, it may be a gee-up to the squad before a very important couple of weeks on the pitch.

This carries a different tone due to the way it's been done.

I accept others aren't bothered by it, but it just doesn't sit right/comfortably with me.

Timing is also atrocious.

What time would you have preferred it to be released?

The Dier situation is interesting as if Wanyama is fully fit I see him being the first choice as fully fit and on form he’s a beast.

Dier then could be deployed in the back three although Sanchez has come in so Dier wouldn’t be first choice if Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Sanchez were all fully fit.
