Eric Dier hopes he’s over what he describes as ‘the most difficult four months of my career’.

The midfielder was back in the starting line-up at Manchester City after an unfortunate run of illness and injury restricted him to six appearances and just three starts in our previous 26 matches between 15 December and the Etihad on Saturday.

Has he learned to stop passing backwards though?

Most difficult time of his career. Should his own fans be joking at his expense on hearing that?

He didn't play great against city but with the right support he will get his form back. And who knows what that could mean this season....

I'll stick up for him.
We've missed him and could have done with his presence in a number of games (snapping that prick Fernandinho for one).
He went though bit of a rough patch and some people want to throw him under a bus.
It wasnt that long ago he was first name on the team sheet. Man U were sniffing around.
Personally I'm delighted he's back right when we need him.

He could play a key role between now and the end of the season.

With Sissoko missing for a couple of weeks and Winks needing rest, Dier’s return (along with Wanyama) could be absolutely vital.

People seem to have short memories
Both Erics- Dier and Lamela have been great for us over the past few seasons. Yeah injuries have been unfortunate but that's life
Welcome back and enjoy the run in

Would be so happy with that.

Then the happiness would be taken away by the slagging off & abuse he'll receive.

EDIT: Will/would also be his first game in the new stadium & we saw how much that lifted everyone else.

I'm totally chilled, just curious how some people can call themselves supporters of THFC when they pick and choose who gets it...

Has he learned to stop passing backwards though?
And to run back and defend instead of pointing to others how they should do it...
And to stop 'splaying the ball about' (off the pitch or to the opposition)?!

Hope so. We could do with a more team focused Dier at least until the summer.

I daresay we could have used him last night. Dier is neat blend of destroyer/pivot, and would have offered us more dimensions than 5 forwards all strung out in an easily mark-able line.

This was very jarring last night. No movement, no pulling short, all expecting some kind of Hollywood ball. Was very disappointing.

Gazza was always good at that prank... :D

But yes, it was very frustrating. Sometimes the old simple things, like one-two's, triangles, push and run etc are the most effective. The old tiki-taka is built on such things.

This guy gets way too much stick from our fans, he's not even a bad player - I don't get it.

I don't think we have enough players with an excellent first touch to pull such play off.
