Eric Dier believes he can become Tottenham’s answer to Philipp Lahm or Javier Mascherano by becoming an expert in many different roles.

It's good to hear he's keen to be our utility player and is aiming to emulate players such as Lahm. He will be useful in years to come.

On a side point, I was very happy to see him with the captaincy vs Liverpool - I felt it suited him very nicely!

I wonder if this interview was sanctioned by the club.
If MP said he thought of Dier as on the same path as the likes of Lahm, that would be interesting.
Instead a player whose position in the first 11 is now precarious is talking himself up, and that is not going to change the situation - it might even aggravate it.
Dier is a good and popular player, but while we are in the CL and going well in the league, MP can drop/sell who he likes, and no-one will question it.

there is such negativity among our fan base - it really is astonishing.
i saw the comments as a response to those outside the club who are trying to suggest Dier might be unhappy by not being played in his "preferred" DM position.

'Jack of all trades master of none' comes to mind.
He should keep quiet until he comes back into form.
Playing for England has obviously sapped his will to live.

I find sarcastic use of the funny smiley irritating (e.g. in response to whitesocks's post - someone has rated it funny). The guy has made his point and doesn't deserved to be laughed at. If you disagree, disagree; don't mock.

Thanks DW.
It was probably meant as a disagree, which is fine.
And it was probably Dier's agent who wrote the story anyway.
