Tottenham alerted as Fulham confirm plans to sell Dimitar Berbatov in January

Tottenham have been given the green light to re-sign Dimitar Berbatov in January after Fulham confirmed they are willing to sell the striker.

Berbatov, who has endured a frustrating season so far at Craven Cottage, revealed this week that he is considering leaving in the new year.

Former club Spurs are known to be among those interested, and Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen says he wouldn’t stand in the way of a move if an offer arrived.

‘I will never stand in the way of people’s ambitions,’ said Meulensteen

‘I had a really good chat with him recently. We spoke about him as a player and the most important thing for me is to focus on the next few games up to January.’

Meulensteen has worked with Berbatov extensively in the last few years, having helped coach him at Manchester United.

And the Dutchman says that Spurs will face real competition to sign from Fulham.

‘He is an immense player, that’s for sure,’ he continued.

‘Any manager in the world would like to have him in their team.’

Tottenham are keen on adding another forward to their ranks when the window re-opens, and have been linked with a £3million move for Berbatov, who enjoyed a successful spell at the club in the past.

Why we didn't sign him and Remy in the summer instead of spending 26 mill on Soldado is beyond me.

Remy wouldn't fit into our system. He is a counter attacking forward, one that likes to beat the offside trap (which will never happen with us, as teams drop to deep.)

I don't think any strikers will come in untill we have shifted one.
Adebayor has shown if you don't want to go there's not a lot we can do about it.

There was nothing hindsight about this. We should have signed him before QPR did. It reminds me of the whole Suarez thing. A highly rated player that the guys in charge at Spurs thought was not worth the money being asked....

Looks like Defoe could be off though, according to reports.

Let's sell Ade to Turkey or west Ham and bring back Berba, someone with presence and class!!!
I can't help feeling that we would be swapping one player who couldn't give a toss for another one who also couldn't give a toss.

AVB brought Soldado to play "his" system. You make it sound like it's the player who is failing, rather than the system he is being introduced to.

He has scored 88 in 161 games for his previous two clubs. Says it all, and we haven't played to his strengths. If you had studied his past you would realise that, rather than just assuming he's shite because of the number of goals he has scored for us so far. The price we paid was the going rate for Spain's third top scorer over the past two season, behind only Messi and Ronaldo!. You and I would have taken that at during the summer.

Remy would be no different, and Ade struggled last season. No more proof is really needed with Defoe, Ade and now Soldado are all struggling to score in AVB's system.

This talk that in hindsight we shouldn't have bought soldado? Hes played 10 games in a new league and in most of those we have been poor going forward giving him little chance

Use the hindsight remark in may or june but December is a bit early.

As for berba back......I think the fans would want to kill him as he is so frustrating when not interested which is a lot of the time. Im not completely against getting him in and shipping out ade but its only because we could get rid of ade. If berba accepted that he was second choice to soldado and would be used in the 65th minute to change gamew then I would take him. Otherwise no.

Helped by the foresight of Remy showing quality in a bound-for-relegation QPR side at a discount price and Berbatov proven in the prem... without a language barrier and a knowledge of the club.

I would accept the argument that Berbatov is a tw@t for his behaviour, but if he'd been slotting goals in left and right I may have forgotten.

Now I could call your bluff but apart from a matchbox version, no :0)

Back in the day - two of my 'exceedingly richer' work colleagues had them. They did nothing but bitch and moan about them - they cost a fortune in garage call outs a loan . The only times I went with them, they drove like milk floats, speed wise in case they broke them.

They looked and sounded great mind.
