He cheated enough money on his contract with us to not have to work again.

I really liked him. On the pitch he hardly ever performed, and I don't know why his form dipped after joining us like it did, but he was a character, and I'm sure he never played shit on purpose for us, he just never performed like he did at Blackburn. Some of the stories when he signed, like seeing a kid with his name on his shirt, turning the car around and asking him if he wanted it autographed, are ace. I'm gutted he never made it for us.

Three of the things he didn't like about professional football were "twitter, social media and money". Well, first two are easy: don't use them. As for the last, "money" has allowed you to retire at 29 years of age, after playing professionally for about 10-12 years. I'd love a career where, after a decade, I have enough to retire on; unfortunately, my current 15yrs will have to have another 35years added onto it before I can retire.

How ironic that one of the things he dislikes about football has put him in the position to be able to moan about it from the comfort of his very expensively purchased home.

He's too immature for top flight football. The story about him and Jimmy Bullard calling Fabio Capello 'Postman Pat' to his face (haha!) shows that he was the kid who never grew up and took it seriously.

The way he talks about losing the fun and wanting to enjoy it suggests that either his talent took him further than his mind was able to cope with, or the game moved on and he was left behind as a glorified park player.

Poor little multi millionaire living on the beach and owning a night club. Tears are literally streaming from my face.

Hard to believe we wasted 15 mill like that.

And the rest. Add in 5 years worth of wages to that transfer fee and it won't be far off double.
People mocked Redknapp for signing (or attempting in Phil Neville & Bellamy's case) 'proper football people' but he would never have signed someone like Bentley; he'd have done his homeword & known his attitude wasn't right.

that's the same harry redknapp that tried to take bentley to qpr when he borrowed jenas - only for bentley to say no thanks, or a different harry redknapp?

To be fair, he'd only have intended to take him to QPR on loan, so it's hardly like spunking £20+ million on buying him outright. If Bentley had got his act together, Redknapp would be hailed for his man-management skills and if not, Bentley would have been dumped back at WHL.
