Or someone in that mould?

I was thinking about this last night, and thinknig about how we had a fighting spirit, and how in his first season we'd come back from goals down to draw and even win. Remember how we played against Arsenal at home and away in that season. I know we've lost Carrick, but did he really do that much defence work? Is it that we lacking someone with actual winning experience that can show how to dig in a get results?

I just wanted to know peoples thoughts.

I know in his second season Edgar wasn't great but does anyone else think we need a Bastard in the team to create a fighting/winning determined spirit.

At the moment heads are dropping, Ledley was never vocal, Keane waves his arms, we desperately need a leader, on the pitch and from the sidelines.

I think Keane's attitude has improved alot and think he deserves the captain armband now.

Regarding Davids, of cause we miss him. He IS still 10x better than Zokora.
A tactically aware Davids in CMidfield running the show overiding dodgy tactics from the gaffer, but he's not with us anymore so..

Davids left us being a bit limited, most people seemed to accept this.

But his fighting spirit, leadership and experience would surely guide us well through this bad patch.

However, we don't have him now so there's really no point going over this

Davids was a good influence to th youngsters of our squad, when we got him everyone said yeah great stuff just what we need, experience, class, skill, been there done that.
He definatly helped the younger players install a fighting spirit within themselves but some of that has now rubbed off.
I definately feel that we need an old influential player still in our ranks, as in any wark of life or job, the mix of young and old is always beneficial.

I was thinking this exact thing yesterday. How spooky.

Funny, we only ever squeezed out those hard-fought wins when he was around. Spurs have gone soft again and where is Edgar? Getting dumped out of the UEFA cup with Ajax...(ok bad example)...

Me too :)

Davids wasn't really much use on the pitch by the time he left, but I think his influence on the training ground and dressing room cant be overstated.

We miss Davids and / or naybet in this team. (Obviously not those players now, but players in that ilk)

We have no real experienced leader in this squad (including ledders). It is still a relatively young/ inexperienced squad and in need of a player or 2 who have been there/ done it. someone who will pick the team up, or give other players a rollicking. Someone who will kick the oppo to let them know we are there, and protect our young players when they get a kick.

This is what commoli should be out looking for, even more than a left sided midfielder !!!

Yes we do miss Davids. We need someone that has a fighting spirit and can give the rest of the team a kick up the ass when needed. I remember a game at the Valley where we were 2-0 down. King scored to make it 2-1 and everyone went off celebrating. Davids went mad and started to order everyone back to our half of the pitch to get the game restarted.

Another example of how we need Davids or someone like him is our games against Arsenal. In the last derby at Highbury, although Davids got sent off he didn't let Cesc do anything against us for most of the game. It was almost as if Cesc wasn't on the pitch. Now when we play Arsenal Cesc is in control of the entire game. We don't have anyone that can put him under all real pressure.

If Jol had played Davids in the middle where he made himself world famous instead of on the left wing then maybe he would still be here now running the midfield with the captain's armband. Bad tactical blunder by Jol IMO to play someone like him out wide.

We certainly do miss him. He was oft criticised for his stint at the club but he was often our best player, doing the stuff that people don't notice. As a motivational player he was second to none.

We'd do very well if we could get another player with his mentality and reading of the game for CM.

we need a figure like Davids. He would play better than JJ and Zakora are at the moment and be a good strong figure for the team to look up too...

I wasn't saying it to say, if you could have any player back who would it be, I was saying do we miss a player of his ilk, which it seems the consensus is yes.

Someone above has said he should have played in the middle - maybe, but it worked didn't it, and lets not forget there was no-one else as that time to play the left role.

Ok so lets change it a bit, if we do need a player of that type, then who should we look to bring in, in the pitbull mould. Try and suggest possible options, so not scholes etc, how about.... god it's hard.... Cahill?

He had to play Davids there because no one else could. We didn't have a natural left winger at the time so whenever we played someone other than Davids there they drifted inward leaving Lee exposed to counter attacks.

If we had Bale or some other left winger that Jol wanted then he would have probably played Davids in his natural position.
