I admire your gusto, but you're wildly wrong on this one.
You think he is a 60 m pound midfielder? A 60m pound full back?

He is a 30m centre half at the very most and that is only being kind because he is english.

Do we need him? Yes. I think that is evident.
My main issue with Dier is that he has got to come up with and edge to his game that sets him apart.
I personally think he is probably a better fit for CB, but he is nowhere near the 3 starting CBs, largely due to his own disinterest in the position. As a CM, he is not terrible and I can imagine that his physical stature is of great worth. However, he does no CM task better than anybody else. He is not a better destroyer than Wanyama, he is not a better creative force and passer than Winks, and he is not better at retaining the ball than Dembele. Dier must hone in on a speciality that can be his. Then, he will be a rock star.

Who gives a fuck about the price randomly plucked from the air by the press this summer? We’d never get 60m for him as the only teams who could pay it are sorted in that position (Matic, Kante, Fernandinho). It makes your whole argument of sell for 60m and spend it moot.

Why does it matter to you so much that he was linked with a 60m move in the summer? I don’t get the obsession with the arbitrary price tag you keep bringing up every five minutes? It’s completely irrelevant to the discussion of ‘Do we need Eric Dier?’

If we have injuries at the back, we can do something really wild like playing 2 centre halves.....
As for this, I’d very much not like to have to change formation every time one of our back 3 picks up a knock. We’re flying with this formation, and we should stick with it.

Selling Dier to any of the manchester clubs and/or chelscum, I am absolutely sure that club will almost bound to be champion. He added such value to them that so many people often like to overlook how much he has added to us.

We are so well-covered in DM and CB areas is not because of the wonderful partnership of Toby and Verts, nor was it due to the superb signing of Wanyama. People need to come to sense of the security Dier adds to these positional areas that allow Poch to really flex the tactical muscles in other areas of the park this season so far! Add in Dembele's inconsistent fitness issue and Wink's coming of age that still takes time, Dier is, and has been, the man to relief all these strains off the team!

What we have now is a large squad with great competition for places. This ensures us to field the players in form. At some point that is Dier, at some point that is Winks, etc.

So yes, we need Dier and most of our players, but at the moment he is probably not in form to start.

Our current form players are Lloris, Verthongen, Trippier, Davies, Winks, Son and Kane.

Next month probably Eriksen and Alli, while others drop form.
The important thing is to have enough players (4-5) peaking form at the same time throughout the season.

Essentially we need utility players. If we simply have a large squad then some players won'tget any playing time and this is not good for morale.

As we regualrly play three at the back having Dier as 4th choice is good and naturally he gets plenty of game time in central midfield anyway.

I was hoping for more improvement by now though. He proved a lot of people wrong by doing a decent job in central midfield 2 seasons ago.

Last season he showed there was some overhype and he has some improving to do.

He is 23 and appears to have a great attitude. Hopefully he can improve on some areas of his game.

At this stage of his development I would hate to see him sold for any price within reason.

Agree completely. He is a very good CB, but only a good CM. He is a lot better when playing next to Dembele, Winks, or Big Vic, but nowhere near as effective when trying to be the main man in there.

He is not indispensable for sure, but he adds depth to the squad and can function in a number of positions. You need players like that in your squad. He also adds to the English core of the club which I think is generally good for our profile.

I've thought for quite some time that it is Dier's attitude and mentality that Poch rates so highly - if that drops or goes then I wonder about his future with us.

Hopefully he sorts himself out as, when he is on his game he is an absolute beast - there is a reason the big boys were sniffing round him after all.

Unreal.

Only here would this happen.

One of our best, yet most under rated players.

He is not even close to being one of our best players. His head was turned by United in the summer and he has been generally quite disappointing this season so far, possibly as a result. Needs to get back to where he was a season or two ago.
