Is he our best CB? No in my opinion. Is he our best defensive midfielder? No and again my opinion. What he have is a very talented and versatile player who enhances us and is very much detriment to our cause. So yes we do need him, selling him now would be paramount to suicide to the club's current position as a major player in the EPL

Earlier in the season I would have said no. But he's been excellent in the last few games, really stepped up. So I'm saying yes, we do still need him. And his versatility.

Such a good player and seems to bring good spirit to the squad.

I remain interested to see how the team lines up when Sanchez, Aldereweireld, Vertonghen and Wanyama are all fit as certainly gonna give Poch a headache.

I expect there will be rotation with Dier sometimes in DM ad sometimes at CB. With our fixture list, we cannot play the same team every match. Performance will then dictate who is starting the biggest matches.

Rotation, and lots of it. It's good to keep a bit of continuity, particularly with our back 3, but let's face if if we can find 3 or 4 different sets of personnel who work together well, then Injuries to one or two of them shouldn't be too much of an issue as the season progresses.

Sanchez - Toby - Jan
Dier - Winks

Sanchez - Dier - Jan
Wanyama - Winks

Toby - Dier - Jan
Wanyama - Winks

Sanchez - Toby - Davies
Wanyama - Winks

Sanchez - Toby - Jan
Wanyama/Dier - Dembele

We can effectively remove 1 or 2 players at any one time and still have an incredibly strong defence/CM. That's not even taking in to consideration Foyth, Sissoko, or moving Alli or Eriksen back in to a midfield 2.

He was brilliant against Madrid and followed it up by putting in a great performance against Palace too.

Thought he was excellent against Utd as well.

He's going to be a proper monster in a couple of years, think he can be a world class CB and an excellent DM, think of an inverted Javi Martinez and that's what you'll have with Dier.

Great comparison and totally agree. It's great to see Dier mature as it seems like he has boughten into the vision Poch has of him becoming a top class Centerdefender.

Life as a Spurs fan:
14/15 season: “we need a DCM”
15/16: “Dier is a beast at DCM, why are we buying Wanyama?”
16/17: “Wanyama is even more of a beast at DCM, but Dier is great in a back three”
17/18: “Sanchez is even better than Dier in a back three, time to sell Dier”
Now: “Dier is back to being a beast at DCM, do we need Wanyama?”

While I know you disagree with me, I would be put him as great but not excellent as I think he was more culpable than the others for Manu's goal

He has Poch's trust to be able to play to instructions and adapt quickly within and between his two main roles. As a CM he's risk averse but the more I see of him, the more I feel it's because he's told to play that way, and that we'll see more from his locker as he matures. With that in mind, I'm happy he's gaining such a lot of match experience. If we had two better specialist players, one at CB and one at CM, then they'd have to alternate, to their own detriment as well as Dier's. He can become an absolutely hugely and historically important player for us. It's happening before our eyes.

I love Dier and don’t want him going anywhere but he shouldn’t be starting any of the big matches with all those players healthy. He’s not currently better than any of them in their respective positions. That’s not to say a few years down the road he won’t be starting for us in those matches. I personally think he’ll eventually replace Alderweild for us in a few more seasons. He can still rotate in for any of the above players in lower profile matches with little drop off and that’s his value to us right now.
