I'll tell you when we know how good our defense is next year. I think a keeper should be the last thing we should sign. With a decent back-4, Robinson is a fantastic keeper. However, if there's any pressure on him to perform, he can't deal with it.

I've always said Robbo needs to be dropped to get a kick up the arse for the last year or so, and now that he's had that I think he's now gradually starting to grow in confidence and get back to this best. I'd like another keeper but would like to keep Robbo, but whether he'll be happy sitting on the bench (if it comes to that) is down to him. A new goalkeeper coach is very much needed too.

I agree with Deadwooddem.

Robbo, for his own sake as well as ours, needs a fresh start elsewhere. It's all gone sour for him at Spurs. I feel sorry for him but we simply cannot afford the howlers or the lack of command in the box.

We need a new quality keeper and also a good GK coach, CD and defensive MF. In other words FOUR changes in personnel to get our defense credible. We can score, but our defending must be top priority.

Look at the Jan. transfer window. I'm sure Ramos sees this too!

robbo doesnt have enough competition for his no. 1 shirt. only Cerny and Alnwick!

Completely agree with this statement. He needs competition for the No 1 spot and a GK coach.

Too bad regardless of this, I think DeadwoodDem got it right and he will need to get out of England to recover from the onslaught the press has given him. Maybe send him to Spain where the food isn't as fattening also.

Sorry but yes, we need a new number 1. There no point spending £16,000,000 on one player in midfield without sorting the next main problem area. Last season we did not sort out midfield so I hope this years seasons problem area will be sorted as well.
I hope Robbo he will stay but cannot see him on the bench for to long.

Yes, even if Robbo stays.

But let's get the line in front sorted out as well, shall we?

Definitely YES

Robbo has lost it, we need to replace him asap. Id love him to stay on or go on loan for a season but i really cant see it happening. If we were to get an older goalkeeper with only a few yrs left, then robbo may stay but if we get a young fella he will be off.

My ideal would be to get a fantastic older experienced keeper like van der sar(not him obviously but similar status) for a cpl of seasons, loan Robbo out to a decent eurpoean team for a season or two then get him back when he is back to his old self (if he is). Thats pretty far fetched though innit!

It certainly looks like a new keeper is a good idea. If our first choice back 4 are fit all season then this will help (although I think it is too early to judge Bale at LB - he has a serious injury to recover from and he didn't play many games there for us.) I hope we get in some classy cover though. A solid defensive midfielder will also be a big plus. Once these pieces are in place our no.1 next season will probably have an easier time than Robbo has had in the last couple of seasons.

As it says in the title, do we needa new number 1 or do we actually need a top notch gk coach? Robbos shot stopping abilities are superb. Long rangers....not so great, maybe a top coach would sort his positioning. Corners, Free-kicks etc a top coach may explain to him what he SHOULD be doing in any number of events. I like Robbo and think he has gotten a hell of a lot of stick this last footballing year. Probably since the Gary Neville pass back!
Even if we brought in a "top class" keeper he would still need a gk coach.
What do you guys think?

Have you seen us play????

We DESPERATELY need a new number 1

I think we do need a new goalkeeper. We have all been waiting and hoping for last season and a half for Robbo to get back to his form of old and sadly it just hasnt happened. Most spurs fans love Robbo and we have shown complete loyalty to him during this down turn in form during his career at most other clubs I think he would have been replaced long ago! I think our defence has lost confidence in him and Cerny and maybe that is a small part of the reason we have conceded so many goals this season! For our sakes and his career sakes I think he needs to move on and have a fresh start! We need 2 new goal keepers maybe 3 depending on what happens with Alnwick and I think Ramos knows this! But it is also vital we get a new goalkeeping coach in as well! My feeling on this is we have someone lined up as goalkeeping coach but we cant get him till the summer!

If I were Robbo and Cerny I wouldn't have too much confidence in our defence; you can't expect a keeper whose own form has hit the skids to compensate for the bungling going on in front of him. Chimbonda cost us three goals in the 4-4 against Chelsea, gifted Blackburn their equaliser and damned near gifted them a winner too—how Cerny recovered from his Jamo impersonation I'm still not sure. And that's just off the top of my head. We've got to sort the whole lot out. We aren't going to be top four contenders until we're conceding fewer than 40 goals a season, and that figure should preferably be closer to 30.

On the basis of the original question, to replace Robinson, the answer is "yes" - & for all the reasons already stated plus maybe one or two more.

However, it is also true that he needs a settled back-line to assist, in the same way as they need a decent 'keeper to assist them.

Sadly, we are failing in both departments.

Robinson is a great shot-stopper, of that there is little doubt. However, his positioning and footwork are both below the level required for a top-class 'keeper. He had those weaknesses when he came, he still has them. His organisation of a defensive unit is also suspect.

To (mis!) quote Oscar Wilde, to be beaten from long-range once may be regarded as misfortune, to be beaten twice looks like carelessness ....... Robinson has taken carelessness to another level.

Then there is the question of his "training on his own". Whether it is because he truly believed his own publicity is academic, the results were horrendous.

We look like we are getting a decent defensive unit in place - I really feel we need a new 'keeper to compliment that.
