Do we (The Fans) get too involved?

I was thinking, after months of reading thread after thread of 'Commoli this', 'Kelmsley that', 'Stadium plans', 'Finance' etc, that perhaps we, the fans, get WAY too involved in the inner workings of the club we support, and that this might be the reason that things constantly get fucked up.

It has really only been recently that every. tiny. bit. of this club has been so heavily scrutinized by us fans, and it got me thinking that maybe, just maybe...
WE REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!

I mean honestly does anybody know what Kelmsley/Commoli/Levy even DO/DID everyday? Probably a lot more than we know. So perhaps its time for us to let the club BE for a while. Let it sort ITSELF out. We could, perhaps, go back to watching the actual FOOTBALL, like God intended. Then maybe stupid shit like the last few months wouldn't happen so much.

Discuss...

We are the fans, club only exsist cause of us so id say we dont get envolved enough lol.

We should voice our concerns and discuss them with each other.

You're right. We don't know what the hell we're talking about.

And what makes matters much worse, is that most of our opinions about the board at the moment are a result of what is written in the press. And the PR that the club are forced to release as a result of what is written in the press.

What we are left with is shit opinions based on absolute bullshit.

Yes and no. It's like politics. There need to be checks and balances. There is a commonly held assumption that what is good for the owners is good for the club and thus fans. That really isn't always the case, so I don't think our scrutiny isn't a bad thing. I agree that we often voice opinion based on little or no information and that is something i personally find annoying. If someone has an opinion i wish that more often they would explain how they came about formulating it and offer some data, or quotes, or examples or past precedents or pictures, or stats, or video etc to substantiate what they are saying.

And where, one has to wonder, does the bullshit that we've had from the press originate? You're right, we can only make semi-educated (at best) guesses, but the fact is that the club has not only provided the media with the ammunition, it's loaded the gun for them.

How anyone can imagine our views can influence anything, or 'fuck things up', is beyond me entirely. The only possible way we could have any influence would be to vote with our feet and boycott merchandise, which would really make the board sit up and take notice. Look at how impotent the United supporters' protests against the Glazers turned out to be. Only if Spurs were set up the way many Continental clubs are, with members having the power to vote presidents in or out, would we have any real power to influence decisions. And that ain't going to happen.

we are certainly entitled to our opinions, and its good to read over opinions on here, as well as ITK stuff (though not often correct, normally makes me laugh)

But as regards to what the board do? or what people think they do? well a lot of it on here seems like BS to me. i cant see that anyone actually knows what they do, what there plans are or there relationships with each other, even ITK's cos they wont see everything that goes on, just the odd thing here and there.

though i think its upto the board to listen to our views when it comes to things like stadium plans, as without us, the fan, to come watch the game, there business investments in us wont be quite so sound.

Too much Spurs is bad for your health.

Any Spurs is probably bad for your health, actually, especially this season

Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I would hope that most of what is said here is simply emotions being vented.

While I agree that what's transpired this season has been frustrating I certainly didn't lose any sleep over it.

If you can seriously say that your life has been adversely affected in any substantial way then you may want to seek the help of a professional.

Well in response to that; i think that I like football a bit less. I cant bear to watch games anymore. Every game I see with US, we are losing/commentators discussing speculation. Every game I see WITHOUT us, I get depressed at how well they are doing, and how much better their midfielders are than Jenas.

So I guess it has, by degrees, adversely affected me.

In my opinion we are the club. Granted it’s the board who run the club, keep it afloat money wise and all that, and its the players who actually do what the club is there for and (attempt) to play football. But it’s us the fans who really care. Perhaps we care too much. But is our club so we should really have some sort of say in what’s going on.
Players come and go, as do chairmen and board members. It’s us the fans who always here. Its us the fans who suffer the most when things go tits up.

I don’t think I have worded this as well as I could have done…..

It's the world we live in guys. In the 'good old days', we would go to a game, see your mates for 2 hours, watch the lads play shite, go home, get 4 minutes highlights on MOTD at 10.30 and read a 2 inch report in the paper the next day. By Monday all was forgotten and forgiven, (unless you were John Pratt ) and the next Saturday game was anticipated.

The board were a bunch of posh guys who said very little and allowed the manager to get on with it. (Or so we we always thought)

Now, we live in Big Brother land, where Sky TV, Setanta and everyone else needs to have 24/7 coverage, newspapers sell lies every day and the collective 'we' have the attention span of Jade Goody.

It's a horrible thought of what life will be like in another 20 or 30 years.

Does anyone else find it funny that the voice of reason is talking about God?

Sorry, religious baiting aside I think the answer is yes AND no.

With regard to scrutinising every aspect of the club without knowing very much I think this is spot on. Its dangerous when fans form opinions based on people trolling or on people saying they know about something that they actually dont.

But sometimes we should get involved a lot more, theres 36,000 of us who get together regularly and if this unity could be channelled against proven enemies of the club then it could make a real difference. I'm thinking specifically of the media.
