Some completely different responses on here to an identical thread started yesterday. Strange that.

Finishing 4th after 9 months of football and 38 games ahead of Chelsea which means you qualify for Champions League football...

...only for it to be taken away by a winning penalty by Didier fucking Drogba playing for Chelsea fucking FC in a penalty shoot-out in a different competition..

well that was hard to take. And it made me less emotional about it all. I try not to make a weekend of football ruin the whole week for me, like I used to do. But I still care. Watch every game. Can't stop. Of course.

If I looked like robbie savage and had breasts I would be less emotional about football too. I'd worry more about my looks.......

I cared when we had Modric, VdV and Bale :(

It's not just about that. I cared then too (obviously), but I also cared when we had rubbish players, when we were fighting for 10th instead of 11th, even when we gathered just 2 points from our first 8 games.

It's not the quality of football or even the level we're at that I think has led to this flatness amongst our support. It's the lack of affinity with, and the lack of identity of, our club.

Spurs right now are that gorgeous girlfriend who you you're always excited about before meeting her, but once you get to her you realise she has nothing between here ears and is actually not great between her legs either. Eventually, you just can't really be arsed as the packaging promises so much more than the product.

You can dress it up (and down) as much as you like but caring and winning are synonymous with our fans and that's whats wrong.

Very true on the girl analogy.

That very thing just happened to me.

I'm not so sure. I think it's a bit deeper than that for some reason. For instance, when we won at Old Trafford this season I was pleased, but that was about it. I certainly wasn't bouncing off the walls in ecstasy like I've felt after far less impressive victories. I think as others have said, there's simply very little connection between the fans and this group of players.

Difficult to see any bonds forming any time soon either, when players like Lloris and Vertonghen are openly admitting to be looking over their shoulders at better options.

Agent Tim means I don't mind when we lose anymore and certainly don't get excited when we win either.

I want to go to sleep for 5mins and wake up after the world cup with LVG announced... Really don't have the will to care right now. Any turn in form will just be false hope.

I don't care as much now. The way we have treated our managers under Enic has made me feel less attached to the club. We never stick with anyone through rough patches, and after seeing how our fans didn't give AVB time with this new squad I kind of want us to fuck up so we can get some good honest support back.

I feel despondent when it comes to Spurs, that I have sort of given up hope which occasionally makes me feel like I don't care as much as I did, but then I realise the despondency is coming from huge disappointment which indicates a position of actually probably caring too much.

But it's true enough that there is also a massive sense of disillusionment towards the club because of decisions taken high up and all buying into a long term project, a plan, a direction for it to be taken away or another false dawn (delete to how you viewed AVB).

While I also used to feel like part of a family when it came to Spurs, I don't think it is a lack of identity so much as others have mentioned because that history will always be known and exist, and the traditions will always be related to by the fans etc. It is more to do with the club perhaps not acknowledging the normal fan as part of the clubs identity, the importance of the fan that turns a team in North London to a Club that brings everyone who cares about Tottenham together.

The fans are slightly to blame as well, we flirted with the Champions League and suddenly acquired 'qualities' we had hated in other supporters, a sense of entitlement, an arrogance etc and we stopped enjoying the smaller things about Spurs.

Many other reasons are popping to mind, may come back to this post when i'm home and my boss isn't loitering...

The most depressing part for me at this moment in time is the fact that now that our top 4 chance are over (lets face it they were over when the scouse spanked us 5 nil at home) I don't actually want us to do well for the rest of the season. Now before everyone jumps down my throat and says what a shit fan I am hear me out:
I want to avoid the Europa league at all costs next season. Nothing anybody can say to me will ever change my mind about what a pathetic competition it is even if next season they do change the reward for winning it. Next season I want us with LVG at the helm to go full tilt at the title and see where it takes us, I genuinely believe with one or two additions we could have a shot at it. But only if we can get out of playing in the ridiculous Thursday night cup.

Unfortunately every game that we win from here on in will be one step closer to booking our place in next seasons loser cup. I never thought id see the day that id be glad to finish below Everton as they are my most hated team and even more so that id quite happily give up on the chance to finish above Man Utd but here we are.

The other very selfish reason that I want to boycott the Europa is that I want my Saturday football back, I hate Sunday football with a passion. Sunday is about watching the big game of the weekend in the comfort of your own sofa content in the knowledge that we won the day before :) I want to enjoy a victory like I used to by going out afterwards and having a few celebration drinks, I simply cannot do this on a Sunday.

That for me is one depressing thought, the fact that id be happy to lose every game from here on in just so that next season we can give ourselves a fighting chance of actually doing something.

..

And led to the dissapointing attitude of some fans who think the EL and Lge cups are a hinderance to us getting into the top four, sad times. :(

For me, weirdly, I see CL as a way of accruing the resources to be able to consistently challenge for silverware of all levels - even EL. Its a bit of backward way of looking at it, but it seems to do anything in this game you need to be on the right end of the CL monies. We're on the wrong end of it. It is pretty much black and white, get CL, get a better team, win stuff. Levy missed step 2 last time.
